I haven't seen any posts on this topic for quite a while. Have we just given up or is there some hope that there might be a solution? Maybe I have just missed something along the way. Every time I update my firmware I hope for the best but still no VPN. Like other users I have no problem establishing a VPN connection when my air card is running directly on a PC or when I am using another, non EVDO, D-Link router.

this is just an opinion, but my guess is its a hardware issue that isn't going to be resolved.
sell that KR1 on ebay, and get a cradlepoint if you have a compatible device, or start saving up for the forthcoming KR2?
just stinking out loud. |

I am surprised that this issue isn't resulting in far more discussion since there are many KR1s in use. I would like to ask a few questions about the Cradlepoint. I see it has a wired uplink in addition to air card connectivity. How does that work if you have both connected? There does not seem to be a port for hard wiring to a PC or a switch, am I seeing that correctly?

I was able to get a Cisco VPN client to work thru the KR1. I changed the Transport from IPSec over UDP to IPSec over TCP Port 10000. However, the VPN host on the other end has to allow connections on this transport/port. Fortunately, my company does.

I think the KR1 is a dieing breed. The KR2 is due out soon and don't believe they will put much more of anything into the KR1. I switched to Sprint for my evdo and naturally the KR1 won't support any of the new Sprint USB cards nor are there any plans to do so that I'm aware of. In fact I've been told to scrap it and move on. Like said above it's too bad as there are so many out there in use. Just a marketing tool in my opinion. a way of making you buy something new lol. I also think it should be taken off the market as a viable product and quit selling to new customers who are unaware it basically isn't being supported (if that's the right word) anymore.

Helo Johnasmith: I spent the bux and upgraded from a KR1 to a CTR500 a few weeks ago and it's been heaven compared to the KR1. Quick blurb on the CRT500:
- It has both WiFi LAN and hardwired ethernet LAN ports.
- WiFi works great. I'm using both WiFi AND the LAN port and it doesn't care. The device is not finicky at all the way the KR-1 is.
- DHCP works right
- Cisco v5 VPN client works out of the box
- Dropped connections get almost immediately restored
- No more power-cycling the hardware - it stays up and running
- Admin web interface is excellent and provides realitime feedback
- If you have a Kyocera KPC680, it has an expresscard slot for that works great.
I recommend you upgrade to a Cradlepoint product. I went with the CTR500 because it's feature set is perfect for use with a home ethernet switch. But I'm sure all their products are way, way better than the KR-1 ever was, ever will be.

Good info JKB, thanks. Will the CTR500 run on 12 volts? I use my KR1 in a motorhome.
