I just activated my Sprint service EVDO REVA on my new Sony Vaio VGN-TZ150N. I can get on the internet but man is it slow. My max speed is around 115kb.

I am running Vista Business. I have an "Excellent" signal 90% of the time, worst is "Good." I am in Houston TX too, btw.

Can someone help me optimize some settings or something like that. I hope this question is not too vague but I can't surf too much to look up solutions as it takes FOREVER to load pages over my connection.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like you are looking at your Dial-Up Networking reported speeds, which don't mean a thing, try doing a speed test at:

http://www.dslreports.com/stest

Report what upload & download speeds you get there.

I appreciate your advice but it takes more than twenty minutes for that page to even come up. My speed is rediculously slow. I try the links but I never end up with a result.

naturally, there should be plenty of sprint rev-a coverage in houston.

lets assume there is a tower issue.

can you drive somewhere else. 3-5 miles should get you to a different tower.

if you can get better speeds off another tower, then you'll know its not your laptop/devices.

just stinking out loud.

I just tried again using WWAN connection and I just spent 15 minutes and the DLSReport timed out with an error and then it stayed on 1KB and never moved. The speed it so minimal the pages don't load and if they do it takes forever.

Sounds like your stuck in the 1xRTT network. Good luck with finding good support for that embedded card Rolling Eyes

I drove to Missouri City, on the West Side of Houston and I got the same speed. So you're right, it's my laptop/card or some configuration.

It is also possible that when your account with Sprint was "provisioned", it wasn't done correctly.

The problem that you are going to have is that if you call Sprint, they will tell you to call Sony and if you call Sony, they are not going to have a clue about what to do.

When embedded EVDO solutions work, they work. When you have a support/service question/issue, it can be extremely frustrating Sad

Yeah, I ran into that last night. I am certainly a newbie to EVDO but I am a SR. Network Administrator for NASA and you would not believe the things SONY and Sprint had me doing to fix the issue last night. It was rediculous.

I was handed off back and forth twice with the last ditch effort by the tech saying I needed to reload my OS. Lucky for him I can do that in about thirty minutes. So I did and what do you know, didn't fix a thing.

So I am on a three day outage here at work with plenty of idle time on a long data migration. I will put support to the test over the weekend and give y'all the results; which will probably be going to buy a card to slip in either usb or pcmcia.

If that's the case, can you recommend the absolute best and newest one? My signal strenght is excellent at home and here at work and would like to take the fullest advantage of some throughput.

Thanks

for superior customer/tech support, we'd strongly suggest you get a U727 with service from 3gstore.com

of course, thats a biased opinion! Shocked

you can read more about why to buy from 3gstore, here:

Ok, after being tossed around more than a prostitute at a bachelor party, I finally worked with a guy at sprint that fixed my connection. This was right after the Sony guy said the ONLY way to fix the problem was to restore my machine to from the factory image AGAIN.

I was conferenced with Sprint and Sony when the Sony guy said this. I gave Sony a few choice opinions on their support technically and dropped the Sony call. The guy from Sprint said lets try one thing before you re-image.

He had me go to my network connections and delete the 3G Dialup Connection. He had me open up the SmartWi and hit Connect and it made a new 3G Connection and what do you know, I am getting 1MB or higher at my office and home through the embedded card.

Thanks for all the support guys and I hope this helps someone else.
