I am planning to buy a ctr350 this week and since I live on the road, I thought this would be a good idea. (see link above)

It is a voltaic systems solar backpack with a 4400ma battery pack. You could take your mobile router everywhere.

I was thinking of using this combo when I am out hiking to immediately post pictures of what I see, and such.

It could also be used in large outdoor events. Anyone dong anything like this?

4 watts might not be quite enough to maintain the battery, but it is close.

At distance, EVDO modems consume more power, so the CP+Modem might end up taking up close to 5 watts (5V * 1A), and usually the wattage rating for the panels are when they are perpendicular to the noontime sun in a clear sky, not sitting at an angle in the evening under haze. But the battery itself should last several hours.

I have some and they do work, but they tend to have limitations.
