|
|
I just found out that a small company called Nex-Tech Wireless has a couple towers within about 10 miles of me. Nex-Tech is a small independent company, but they use Sprint technology and Sprint towers when you're not near a Nex-Tech tower. Supposedly their towers are Rev. A capable. They just added EVDO technology to their towers a couple months ago.
My question is whether or not I can use my current Alltel data card to test the signal strength of one of these Nex-Tech towers. Is that possible? The Alltel towers in my area are running on 800 mhz only. The Nex-Tech towers are 1900 mhz. I know for a fact that I never use the Nex-Tech towers on roaming with my current Alltel phone. |

Alltel data cards are all dual band -- so you're covered there. The bigger problem would be the roaming agreement or lack thereof. Alltel and Sprint have an agreement, and Nex-Tech apparently has an agreement with with Sprint, but you'd need an agreement between Alltel and Nex-Tech.
I think you're back to figuring out the 25-mile solution. Man do I feel for you! |

I'm just wanting to find a way to test the Nex-tech tower, and if I get a good signal I'm dropping Alltel and switching to Nex-tech.
I might have to talk to the company and see if I can borrow some equipment or something. |

NathanP,
Yes, your data card should work with Nex-Tech Wireless. It is CDMA and maybe even Rev A . You should talk with them and see if they would turn on your data card. Looks like they have two levels of service. One for $49 and the other for $69 a month.
Good Luck |
