|
|
| With no access to dsl or cable in our area, I recently purchased the UTStarcom UM150 from our Alltel provider. The UM150 has provided an exceptional improvement over the dial up so I now want to get rid of the second phone line and dial up provider and only use the UM150. But I need a router that is compatible so we can use both a desk top and laptop. My Alltel rep said the Kyocera KR1 would work but after doing some research I question if it actually will. I don't see a usb port in the back of the KR1 to plug the UM150 into. Will the KR1 work, is there an adaptor available or is there another router that would be better. Thanks |

I would instead look at the Cradlepoint line. I've seen posts on here where folks have used the CTR350 just fine with the Alltel flavor of the UM150. Or, better yet, wait on the MBR1000. It sounds like it's going to be a real winner...

the KR1 has a USB port, but it does NOT support the UM150
i would follow westm's advice
here is our review of the CTR350 and PHS300
and special info about them working with UM150
and, here is a release about MBR1000 |

| Alex and Westm - I really appreciate your response and direction. It was a big help. Is there an idea as to the release date and price of the MBR1000? This is probably the way to go. I also want to be sure I will be able to plug my dell desk top into it as well as receive the wireless signal for my lap top. Again, thanks! |

Hook it up to the KR1 I have it working by disabling dhcp on the router and using a miniport bridge on my main box then using network setup icon in xp.
It will all self install from microsoft or you can use internet connection sharing. It all works the same. _________________ KD4VWV - EM95 |

Why would you buy a router (or any other device for that matter) that you know doesn't work with the hardware you have and then spend time and money buying other devices and fiddling around with various settings to hope to get it to work . . . . . . . when all you have to so is simply buy a device (in this case any of the Cradlepoint routers) that works right out of the box? The price is virtually identical and the performance is apparently even better on the Cradlepoint. This just doesn't make a lot of sense to me . . . . . . . but then what do I know . . . . . .
cpoteet, I understand doing this (and congratulations to you for getting it to work) . . . . . if you already had the KR1 and got tired waiting around for Kyocera to release a firmware update to include new device support but for the OP's situation it just wouldn't make any sense at all. That's my opinion anyway. |
