Hello all,
I got my shiny new KPC-680 the other day and it works great in my laptop but not my desktop (my old KPC-650 worked fine in the desktop). I have a PCI->PCMCIA card (Ricoh) and am trying to use the KPC-680 with its no-name ExpressCard->PCMCIA adaptor. The problem is that when I plug it in its sees the KPC-680 and installs it as a network card and not a modem. QuickLink Mobile doesn't see the card at all. No way to 'connect'.
Its a kind of weird configuration I know, just wondering if its possible to do? I've tried with and without the TXPCM10001 driver that comes on the AllTel CD for the ExpressCard->PCMCIA converter (At least thats what I think it is).
Thanks for any input, like to hear if anyone got it to work that way, and what drivers you are using. I'd use a KR1, but when the wind blows I bounce to 1X a quick reconnect solves. |

| I'm not sure I've heard of the sled that comes with the KPC680 working in ANY configuration. I think it was just a bunch of stuff that Kyocera had laying around that they couldn't give away do . . . . I mean seriously now. We're talking about a company that can't get their own card (KPC680) to work with their own router!! (KR1) Pretty sad IMO! |

Thanks guys for your input.
Alex: Hmm. The MicroUSB adaptor sounds very interesting. Does it use its own driver, and do you know if it'll work with the AllTel Quicklink Mobile s/w? |

it uses NO drivers at all. thats the cool part!
must be working with QLM, as we've sold several to folks using with KPC680/CTR350 combo.

Actually using the the adapter with the KPC680/CTR350 combo wouldn't show whether or not it works with QLM since QLM isn't used while the card is in the router.
That thread Alex referenced does show that people are using the adapter with the CTR350 successfully but I'm not sure I've heard of anyone using the adapter successfully or unsuccessfully without a router. Anyone? |

the sheer number of people who have bought it for alltel, is what i based my answer on. |

| I can confer that the USB adapter works well with QLM as I have used it with my desktop. |

Well the mini USB thingy arrived from 3gstore and interestingly enough I had the same issue that I had with the ExpressCard->PCMCIA adapter, Windows XP would only see the modem as a CDMA NIC and not a Modem. QLM would not see the card. No Internet. No amount of uninstalling & reinstalling drivers would help.
After more searching, I found someone else with the same problem. The solution was to uninstall all the drivers. Delete the file kwndis.sys in the /windows/system32 directory. Reboot (important). Re-install card. Worked first time. [apparently some windows update put kwndis.sys there].
Thanks all. Mini USB thingy works great now, with KPC680 in a desktop. |
