that I am connected to a different tower? When I go to speedtest and it recommends a different server than "normal" what does that mean?
I have been having issues for a while. I just tried the desktop and it seemed to work fine. Well I moved the laptop over by the desktop and so far, so good, so now I am even more confused.
I just dropped to 1X though so it still might be that they are working on towers.
Anyone know anything about IPv4 connectivity and what it means? |

No, the IP address doesn't correspond with the cell site. When you connect you're more-or-less randomly assigned an IP address from Alltel's pool of addresses and your nearest server will appear to change depending on what IP address you get.
When I get an IP address starting with 166, speedtest.net shows my nearest server as either Atlanta or Raleigh, NC. When I get an IP starting with 98.13x something, speedtest.net may shows my nearest server as being Frederick, MD or Stillwater, OK, or Plano, TX, etc. |

Thanks. I used to always get a recommened server of Stillwater, OK but since I started having connection issues I noticed that it can be Plano or Kansas City and once it was even Atlanta. I just wondered if that was a coincidence or what.
I am actually closest to Plano I think but Stillwater isn't much farther, I would think. |
