Just what benefit is there to the pigtail? Does hooking up the 2nd USB line to another 2.0 USB port really do any good? I think I read it gives you a bit more power? Just curious. I know the specs say it gives you another amp or something like that and helps with the signal (fringe areas?) I believe. Any input?? Just what's the purpose of it? Thanks....

the KR1 is the old kyocera router...
what USB cable are you referring to? |

I have the KR1 and the Verizon USB 720 aircard. Sorry about that Alex. I'm talking about the USB pigtail cable that came with the USB 720. Not the KR1.

thats what i thought, but i figured it was best to make sure. (btw, i fixed thread topic to make more sense)
the USB720 will want more power than one USB port can provide -- under weak signal conditions.
if signal is adequate (no we haven't figured out the magic number), the USB720 will not ever use power from a 2nd usb port, even if its available.
the better solution is of course, to use high-gain antenna like our booster antenna, to improve signal received by the USB720. |

Thanks for the thread title change Alex. Whew!, not enough coffee this morning. Brain and keyboard are not synced lol.
OK that explains as to why I plugged in the 2nd USB cable the light on the port (USB Hub) did not light. Apparently the 720 is not using (or doesn't need) the additional power. I couldn't figure out why that particular USB port light did not light up as all the others do. Thought it was a bad cable lol!

Here's a question....
I also have the USB 720 and the KR1 router.
My question is, can you plug the pigtail USB cable into the other USB port (you know the one that is used for testing) on the kr1 router just to supply additional power to the USB720? |

No, you cannot. The second USB port on KR1 is for diagnostic information only. Though it is a USB physical connector, it is actually wired for RS-232. The USB port on KR1 will provide all the power a USB device needs (not just 500mA). |

| correct, unless you do the 2nd USB Power Mod (not the official name mind you) the 2nd USB port has no power running to it.... i did it... works like a charm... it seems d-link wasn't thinking properly.... |
