Hey all,

I posted in UbuntuForums.org with no response yet but you all seem better equiped to handle my question.

ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=678282

Basically if you cant get to the link above, my transfer rate in Vista is >1100 and in ubuntu ~500 when comparing from the exact same location with the exact same pc and card/antenna position. It is very repeatable. Where do I begin to fix this?

Thanks,
Eric

Wow! I've stumped both forums!

Anyone know how to diagnose and tweak the EVDO speed in Linux vs. Vista?

Thanks!
Eric

Are you using the airprime module or just usbserial?

Since the 2.6.18 kernel, the airprime module has been capable of operating EVDO modems at full speed. You probably will need to patch and recompile the module to add support for the U727.

The Sprint Linux guide is far less than optimal...

Hey thanks for the reply. Yes I am using usbserial. There were several threads in Ubuntuforums that implied airprime was broken in Gutsy. I don't know if that is the case but I suppose I could try to reverse the blacklisting of airprime I did to try.

I'll do a bit of learning on my own really quick to see what I can come up with and post my results or questions.

Thanks!
Eric

Thanks again. This is just what I did. I downloaded the source tree and kernel headers, added the U727 device to airprime.c, recompiled that folder, copied the new airprime.ko file to the appropriate folder, disabled usbserial, rebooted and fired up the modem with the airprime driver with a 3x speed improvement. My numbers went from ~500kbps to almost 1800kbps.

Awesome and thanks!
