|
|
Hi all,
I've a KPC-650 with external amp and omni. Speeds recently have been terrible (avg 200kpbs). Was thinking of upgrading to KPC680 to get better connection - have people noticed better speeds after upgrading to the 680? (Alltel Rev0 area).
Thanks!

I went from averaging around 800 - 900 kbps with a PC5740 to consistently averaging over 2Mbps with a used KPC680 I bought on Ebay. Needless to say I have been a VERY happy camper since making the change. YMMV |

Just to give everyone an update, my 'open box' KPC680 came from eBay (quite funny, the AllTel return label still on it said 'customer remorse'!), and my cable came from 3gstore (thank you 3gstore for the quick shipping).
I need to get a longer cable, so currently have the card in my laptop but so far speeds are better. Not mind blowing, but better. Before it would avg 200-400kpbs, now averaging 500-700kpbs (and this is peak time).
Transferring the ESN (ESN Swap) was a breeze. No waiting for tech support and they all spoke English.
So I'm pleased with my $100 (total) outlay, seems snappier, I can use the card in my laptop and will be RevA when it comes this way. |

Rockin' and rollin'!! Glad it's working out for you. Actually when you think percentages it's QUITE the increase . . . 2 to 4 times faster ain't nothing to sneeze at.
Combining Alltel and 3GStore's CS is a no brainer IMHO. |

| Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention. The speed test doesn't do it justice, but ping times (ping from cmd prompt) are down from avg 200ms to avg 180ms with the new card. Something gamers or people doing ping sensitive stuff might be interested in (again Rev0). As I said, not mind blowing, but worth the money for the upgrade if this is the only thing close to broadband you can get. As you say though YMMV. |
