(Apologies if this is a FAQ - I couldn't find an answer via searching)

What is "about" the maximum distance from a tower you can be and still get a decent signal? I'm willing to install a midrange antenna and amp if necessary, but nothing exotic that will break the bank.

According to the coverage map at Sprint, I am equidistant from three towers. The bad news is that they are all about 10 miles away... Oddly though, according to the same maps I am within the Rev A service area. This just doesn't sound right, especially considering some of the posts I read here about people having trouble getting a decent signal just a couple miles away from a tower.

I know I get a certain trial period to test things out, but if it's obvious to you more experienced types that it's hopeless, I'd rather save myself the hassle.

Thanks,

Matt

I was not aware that Sprint coverage maps showed tower locations, future towers yes, but not existing. If it shows you in a orange Rev.A area I'd say the tower is a lot closer than 10 miles. The 3gstore folks can tell you if your good to go. Send them an email with your address.

Email sent (and responded to! These guys are great!)

Took a look at antennasearch.com and I see there are a few Nextel antennas closer than I realized. I've also seen some posts on dslreports.com that state, by itself, even 10 miles is not too far. Of course, terrain and vegetation play into it also...

Thanks,

Matt

You can always check to see if any of our forum members posted coverage/speed results for your area at EVDO Maps . If not, submit your own results when you get your equipment Smile
