If I setup a one day pass. Is it possible to use the information they give back to me:
location code
wireless phone number
etc.
with an external USB or PC card EVDO device and a KR1 router? why you ask? A few times a year we will be donating broadband access to local groups that do their sports registrations (yes they are online, but the like to give people that don't have internet as way to register in person with a computer) - our group can't afford to buy a 2 year contract for broadband, but we could afford to spend $15 a day for a few days in the year, if we could plug the device into the KR1 and configure it to use the pass.
I would assume this would be possible, but I may be wrong if the authorization is all software based in conjunction with the VZaccess program |

I'm not aware of any pre-paid EVDO data plans for embedded or dedicated EVDO devices.
3Gstore.com does offer EVDO Rentals ! |

How about finding someone with a supported EVDO phone or datacard already and just use theirs? Even if they don't have unlimited data you could add that plan for the month(s) you want to use it and be good to go.
I think PAM add-on for Sprint is something like $15/month. |

My HP notebook with embedded Verizon EVDO has a daily option for $15 a day. I can't give you the link to the exact window, but I can walk you though getting there.
On the following page, on the right hand side is "Pricing" link.
Clicking on pricing will give you the pricing for a 1 Year contract, a 2 year contract, or a Daily Pass. (This pops up in an annoying window, which is why I can't give you a direct link.)

Unfortunately, I don't think that the one day pass can be used with anything other than an embedded wireless card. It's an option built into the VZW software bundled with the card. I'm assuming that they extend this option to other manufacturers, but I don't want to spend the time researching it. I could not find the day pass by going to Verizon's site. |

Well, the reason I couldn't find it on Verizon's site is that there is no listing with the EVDO service. It's buried under the business / products and services / internet / BroadbandAccessBuiltIn section. Or here:

| If I buy an evdo pc card on ebay, can I activate it month to month instead of a full 1 or 2 year contract? |

Nope, you will need at least a 1 year contract to activate service with any dedicated EVDO device. |

Nope, that's for unlimited web on the handset itself.
The PAM plan is $40/month. I was just speaking with Sprint about this. If you have the $15/month unlimited web add-on and tether your phone, you'll get billed $.03 per Kilobyte (that's $30.72 per MEGABYTE!!!!!) for data that you use from computer that you tether your phone to. For reference, a 3 megabyte MP3 file would cost over $90 to download at $.03/k.
Be careful. It can get very expensive.

Right. You need to add a PAM plan to your data plan to get unlimited tethered data. I think that is another $15/month.
