I am looking for an amplifier for the 802.11 side of of my KR1.
I have the cellular amplfier side, but I want to extend the reach of my hotspot to allow me to cover my entire convention show floor with solid signal.
Presently it is very low on the other side of the hall.
Does anyone know of an amplifier that would increase the range |

| Alex is probably right. I picked the antenna he refers to from them and it made quite a bit of difference. Extended the range of my wi-fi quite a bit. I think it would do what you want it to. |

Alex is right! Now I haven't done any scientific testing on this, but I can see a noticeable difference between the standard antenna and 5.5 dBi gain antenna.
For example: In my basement I was only getting 2 (sometimes 3) bars of signal on my MacBook's aiport signal strength indicator. With the extended range antenna, I get all 4 bars throughout the entire basement area, and even on our deck outside! Highly recommended product for just $20 ! |

THat's great, but I am not wanting to just cover my house. I am looking to cover several floors in a hotel or covering atleast 400-1000' or more.
THis is why i think that I need an amp also. |

OK well that's a little different than your original post! You stated you only wanted to cover the above and now it's the entire hotel!
What I've done is turned the wireless mode of the KR1 off and cable to my Lynksys WRT54g which has DD-WRT firmware and have it pumped up pretty good along with 9dbi antennas. With this setup I can easily get 1,000'. In fact the back camp hosts of the campground use my wi-fi and they are at least 1,000' with a mixture of trees and RV's in between. Imagine if I had an outdoor omni directional mounted on my ladder rack, it would even do more.
Quite a bit of difference between your first and second post. In this case no the $20 antenna Alex mentioned won't do the trick. You made no mention of your house, or several floors of a hotel. Just the convention room floor! |

Neither KR1 nor KR2 (at launch) support WDS. Moreover, every time you add an access point, your throughput is effectively cut in half. This is probably ok for n radios that are running MIMO but when you take the limited bandwidth of a g radio and cut it in half, it becomes useless quickly. |

Guess I better remove those 3 WAP54Gs I have spread out through my corp complex even though the throughput is just fine. Not.
I'll add that additional KR1/KR2 limitation to the rest I have jotted down also, appreciate that tidbit

I am not looking for additional distribution points & I am not looking to cover an entire hotel, rather, only to cover the floor above & below & the 400-1000' of the tradeshow floor end to end.
What I need is a bidirectional amplifier for the 6radio side of the router. |

I cover ~10 acres and do it without emptying the till. Granted the APs 'meshed' are mostly for visitors and vendors while the Fiber Op does most of the core networking between the 2 main buildings. But a day doesn't go by that I few field managers or superintendents and a half dozen vendors/customers that passthrough are not connected via the APs.
If your not shoving GB size files around why spend the bucks, especially when your gateway pipe is inder 2000k throughput on a great day sitting next to the tower.

Not shoving GB around, but here is the deal, I am exhibiting in Las Vegas.
They want INSANE amounts of money for access in your booth per IP.
I want to provide Access to my booth, my clients, that means I want to reach the dimensions I mentioned. It also explains why I don't want AP's. I want a single location that is hot enough to reach those distances with strength.
Maybe given the poor performance of most devices connecting to my system that simply adding a better antenna is all I can do?
Doesn't anyone make a bidirectional amp for the 802 G side of the radio? |

| A reasonable way to extend your range is to attach an 80211.N router to the KR1. It will easily double what you have now. Your nickel. |

Range is what I need, but if it is only connecting to g computers, how does that help? |
