My current setup involves using Internet Connection Sharing with a UM150 modem. I have a standard ethernet cable running from my onboard ethernet connection (Nforce) to the 360. I am able to pass the IP address and DNS tests with no problem but I fail on the MTU test.

I have tried using Dr. TCP under adaptor settings to set the MTU to anything above the prescribed limit (currently at 1432) to no avail. I also tried putting in a value of 1432 and leaving blank the Dial Up MTU field based on some of the posts here. Whether the firewall is on or off appears to be irrelevant as well. Xbox Live support told me I needed to talk to Verizon to get them to set my gateway to 1400. Verizon support refused to be of any help at all due to Live not being supported.

Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. I am still within my 15 day return window so dumping the UM150 is not entirely out of the question if that will be part of the fix.

I don't want to sound unsympathetic, but if you are using windows Internet Connection Sharing you're asking for pain to come your way.

Windows does all kinds of things to warp packets and route them. Save yourself the pain and get a CTR350 so you're EVDO to Wi-Fi or Ethernet

Otherwise, I really don't have much I can do to help you. I've used ICS for years and it's never been reliable, or friendly. Much like windows.

If that works, great. I was just hoping to avoid dropping another 150 dollars for something that still may not work.

Thanks for the reply.

I have the same modem running with ICS and I don't have any ICS problems at all. What are you using to connect the xbox360 to the PC network? I am using a linksys wrt54G router that I disabled DHCP on. I am using it strictly as a wired switch and wireless gateway. No problems at all. I plugged the xbox 360 into it and just went through the network test process. The xbox 360 detected all the settings and we were done. Whatever you use to connect the 360 to the PC that is using ICS has to not have DHCP on. The PC must act as the DHCP and assign all the addresses. I currently have two other PCs, the Xbox 360, a toshiba hd-a35 hd-dvd player and my two direct TV HD satelite receivers all hooked into the main pc running ICS without any hiccups. The PC running ICS was my old one with windows XP up until about a month ago when I built a new one with 64 bit Vista. Both ran ICS without issue.

So I followed all the advice on this forum. I have UM-150 on Verizon Wireless I just purchased the cradle point CTR-350 and hooked everything up. I then went and purchased the wireless adapter for the XBOX 360.

All the laptops work great, i'm pretty sure that the connection is actually quicker now the modem is in the CTR-350 than it was when it was right in the laptop. HOWEVER, once connecting my XBOX 360 to the cradlepoint wireless network when ever I try to connect to XBOX live I fail the MTU test.

I've looked high and low for a solution to this. Nobody seems to have one... anyone out there successfully running UM-150 and CTR-350 and XBOX live? HOW?

I am running the cradlepoint router and UM 150 modem with xbox live just fine. I am connecting using a network cable and not wireless though. The cradlepoint is acting as my DHCP and is doing a great job. I would go through your cradlepoint setup tabs and double check your settings. I am not sure why your getting a MTU failure.

Are you plugged XBOX --> CRT-350? or do you have a hub / switch?

HA, so i just went and pulled out the cat 5, hooked the xbox to the CRT-350 and it's up.

How lame!

I bought the wireless adapter for the XBOX specially for this task, cos i thought that it needed it.

if this could be any help...

I was having the exact same problems that you were having...
I hadn't gotten a router and I wanted to play some live, So I used my old Windows 2000 laptop and used crossover cable to the 360... When I did the "test xbox live connection" It would always do IP address confirmed, Wired, and then MTU would fail... So After a lot of googling. I finally fixed it and it has worked ever since...
It has been a while so I might not be 100% sure... but This is basically how I went about switching the MTU.(by the way, MTU is maximum transmission unit) I believe that close to 1365??? or so is the lowest for the abilbity to play live... when first starting out, the original windows setttings are too low...So therefore, you need to manually make them higher(its as easy as just typing in higher numbers...)
I used DRTCP application to manually change the MTU. I would google it to make sure you adjust the right thing though. changing the registry wrong could be drastic for your PC...
Just some tips- start with probably around 1400 MTU for your first change
- Always restart your computer after a change otherwise you won't know the difference ( I found that out the hard way... I Adjusted it 3 times in a row expecting a difference- It failed... So I restared my computer, xbox, internet, did a test and what do you know... It passed MTU!

Of course- If you don't like taking the risk you could always just buy a router, it would be easier to set up but more expensive..
I wouldn't consider myself exactly smart about computers and all, but I eventually figured out MTU for xbox...(even without bricking my laptop or xbox!)

I dont know how much help this will be to you...It could be, it could not be...Well Thought I'd try to help...

ok... wow... I feel really dumb... I noticed that you already used DRTCP...
It must be my bedtime..

Here's what I have for my numbers... under all option tabs I have have MTU 1380. And for up higher: Dial Up (ras) MTU = 1500 for all tabs as well.

If this just started last night (Sept 29) it was because XBOX was down all day yesterday for system maint for there upcoming Xbox Live Experience dashboard update.

I am using ICS with a UM150 for xbox live.. You really can't hook your xbox straight into the pc's nic adapter without a crossover cable for ICS to work. I use a Gigabit Dlink Switch to hook my xbox up to my laptop using ICS and I have had no problems with it. If some of you are using the same setup as me only you have a 10/100 switch or hub to connect both devices that is fine too, but it will be a little faster using a gigabit switch.
