After my good fortune with the PC5740 I decided to press my luck with the Novatel V620, which was supposed to be a superior card. And it works! I guess Dell really fixed it (and they should have, since they're now selling the V620 as an option to the 6000).
So far, the performance at my desk on the 7th floor in a building in Times Square, NYC, is about the same for both - 200 kb per second - although I was able to achieve about 370 kb when I moved near a window. |

| Another data point: I just got peaks of over 1mb/sec with the I6000 and V620 (and Venturi turned off) from my home in lindenhurst, NY. Not too shabby... |

We have had a few successes with lately with the Dell Inspiron 6000 and the Novatel 620 (Verizon V620 or Sprint Merlin S620). It appears that on the newer 2006 models of the Dell Inspiron 6000, they may have fixed the problems that it used to have. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

But again, we are still hearing reports of problems, so, to be safe, we recommend the AirCard 580 for Dell Inspiron 6000.
We just got a report from someone with a Dell Inspiron 6000 that was purchased March 2006 that was having problems. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I tried to go to the Dell string that was posted previously and it wouldn't let me access it -- even after I logged in. Would it be possible for someone to copy that string and e-mail it to me? My e-mail address is GallopingAngels@gimail.af.mil Also, if anyone has any other information concerning Verizon and them having knowledge of the incompatability problems between the Dell Inspiron 6000 and the KPC650 wireless card -- please let me know. We are trying to work with Verizon to get them to take back a wireless card that is over the 15 day warranty -- problem is that we've spent months trying to get the card to work and are on a huge circle jerk between Dell, Kyocera and Verizon. At this point all we want is for Verizon to allow us to cancel the line and take back a card they sold us that they knew wouldn't work in our computer!! I appreciate any help anyone can provide us!!
Thank-you!

We use the Verizon V620 on most Dell Latitudes ok.
verified working on
D620
D410
D600
The Dell M90 only has an ExpressCard slot. Some Dell models have both a 34mm ExpressCard and PC Card combo slot.
The D620 Cardbus drivers may need to be installed before the PC Card can be detected by the installation software. This is on Dell's site.
Our AT&T VPN dialer software requires a checkbox "NDIS" to be on for it to work. Not clicking the NDIS checkbox causes the connections to drop after about 30 seconds.
We have older and newer versions of the V620. Older versions do not have the 'Bluetooth' option when installing. ALL versions of the V620 installation software crash midway, and require a reboot. Run the install a second time and the card is detected and works ok. |

Thanks for your reply I will add those models to the list of notebooks that "work"
According to information found right on "EVDOinfo.com" the PCMCIA adapter is not compatible If the listing for PCMCIA Adapter displays Cardbus only or Ricoh Cardbus.
After I found that it only took me all day to scour dell's support site for the cardbus controller on every single different type of notebook we use
Only a couple use Ricoh, so they will get usb adapters. for the rest that don't want to work hopefully installing updated cardbus drivers like you mentioned will fix the problem. Dell seems to prefer Texas instruments. Once you move up to express card slots then none of that mess even matters anymore. this seems to explain why some worked and some did not. |

I am a person just like this. My Inspiron 6000 was purchased on March 19, 2006. my corporate just sent me a Verizon PC5740.
Looks like I'm in for a long phone conversation with 'support' at my corporate office about the issues with the Inspiron 6000 and this card.
It never installs correct, shows up as 2 NEC USB adapters, and just generally kills my laptop until I remove the card, remove the software.
I, too, wish that link from Dell's website was a cut-and-paste of the information instead of a link. <sigh> |
