I'm buying an omni directional antenna from 3gstore sometime today. I'm trying to figure out how to run the cable from it to inside my house?

How do you guys do it?

if there's anything else on the roof with a cable going into house, try to squeeze the antenna cable into the same hole, then seal with silicone.

if there aren't any existing cables, maybe you can get the cable into house through some other, bigger hole -- like a roof vent?

of course, you could also mount antenna on eave of roof, then run cable down the side of house into a gable vent or even a window?

the omni external we sell, is meant for outdoor/exterior applications. like a house or RV.

our 'booster antenna' is our indoor/portable antenna that does not require an installation. fits in briefcase or laptop bag, so it travels really well.

I'm going to assume, since you guys rec. the omni to me, that its going to be the better one for my use?

I know we all want to try and save as much money and hassle as possible, and not having to wire cable and get on my roof would be amazing.. but if thats the best solution.. then what must be done, must be done.

via help ticket response, we pointed you towards the RSSI article we have.

you mentioned that inside home with EVDO lock you got -86 with speeds of 1mbs down and 80kbps up.

did you do more research? what's the signal and speeds like outside and around home?

well.. last night it was messy and rainy.

from inside I was getting -100+ - -105+ db no matter where I went in the house.

I went outside, and the RSSI did increase once again.. going down into the low 90s high 80s. I road a few miles down the road, and was getting 79.

Last night, I never DC.. but my QLM said I only had 3% signal no matter where i went with my laptop in the house.

the booster antenna does a good job of getting signal you have immediately outside house, into your house.

the omni external antenna is a better option when you know that what is causing your signal loss is stuff like trees. the omni allows you to mount antenna higher in the air, and outdoors.

so if I am in my front yard...

http://64.234.218.210/cgi-bin/ga_crisp_photo.cgi?id=R1888&build=1&max=1&parcel=037I%20%20%20022

which you can see in this picture. Just down those steps, I was getting full bars, and 100% signal.. the first night I had it..

last night, I could only pull about 2-3 bars in the same spot.. but it was messy and rainy last night, and maybe that had something to do with it.

I really need to buy one or the other today, so I can try it before my trial runs out. I'm pretty sure I am keeping it this time though, because I was never able to stream videos, and play online with my wii before.. and now I can. I have no doubts rev A is coming soon.

so, with your expertise.. do you think I should still go with the omni?

I went ahead and ordered the omni.

I wanted to do it before 3 to ensure it gets shipped.

I believe I am making the right choice. You guys have been extremely helpful. A+ customer service.. coming from a guy who does customer service for a living.

I did express saver.. so hopefully i will get it in a few days.
