Why Doesn't Cradle Point Support HSDPA?

I bought a Cradlepoint 350 when it first came out. Back then, the website stated that it supported many GSM phones and more were coming soon. Very soon after that, the GSM phones got moved to coming soon and then disappeared.

I kept the device too long to return and it is sitting on my shelf. Every couple of months, I take it down, upgrade the firmware and give it a try.

I recognize that EVDO and HSDPA are two separate technologies, but it would seem that this is going into the modem, not coming out. I can't understand how a Sprint Mogul using Internet Sharing would output something significantly different than an ATT 8525.

While I have a Windows Mobile device, I would happily buy a USB Modem if there was one that work. Certainly with the Modem program on the 8525, however, I should be able to configure it to emulate a supported USB Modem.

I did several months ago and received something non-commital, e.g. something saying that they were working on expanding the list, but can't support everything.

I think what I was asking is (admittedly indirectly) is whether anyone has heard of anything USB and HSDPA which works, even if it is not officially supported.

I don't know about Cradlepoint's approach to this but I do know that UMTS/GSM HSDPA/HSUPA data services are quite a bit different from CDMA EVDO data services. The methods of connection are different and it requires a different setup that isn't always easy to figure out or implement.

I'll keep looking. Cradlepoint has a booth at GSM World's 2008 GSM Conference in Barcelona next month. Hopefully, that will get them motivated to service the other side of the divide.

I had called them a while back and chatted with one of their sales people and they said that they were hoping to have GSM device support in early 2008, so keep your eyes peeled I guess.

I'm in the same boat. I bought two of them on the promise that HSDPA support was "Comming Soon".
