Hi,
I recently picked up a D-Link DIR 450 router to use with my Verizon 5750 card. However, sometimes (most of the time) the internet connection goes from a decent speed to a crawl. If I check the router, it typically shows 8 out of 10 bars when its running fine, however, when the connection slows down to nothing and pages start loading slowly to the point of timing out, the router shows 3 out of 10 bars. The signal will fluctuate between 3 and 8 every 5-10 minutes. Rebooting the router will bring the signal back to full power, but will drop back to 3 bars in a few minutes.
I picked up an booster antenna from the 3G store, and it doesn't really seem to have helped. However, my signal now goes from 3-4 bars to 7-10 bars. Performance is basically the same.
I live in a major metropolitan area. I'm not in a fringe zone, supposedly there is a Verizon tower within a mile or two. Card and antenna are being used in the second story of a house and sit right by a window (non-Low E). I've tried moving the booster antenna around for a better signal to no avail. Should I consider this a router issue or maybe a bad card? I've upgraded the FW to the latest version (beta) with the 5750 support. I've noticed this site really doesn't seem to support the DIR-450. Is this a bad router for the job? Would a KR1 be a better choice for this? Or should I just dump the router and go to a USB modem?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |
