|

I recently picked up a MacBook Pro. I'm a Sprint customer and I currently use EVDO with a Merlin S720 PCMCIA card on my Lenovo T60. Obviously, this won't work on a MBP w/ an ExpressCard/34 slot. I see that Sprint has two Express Card options:
Merlin EX720 or Aircard 597E
Which one is best for a Mac? Since my T60 has an ExpressCard, I can activate it on WinXP (wish I realized that my T60 had ExpressCard when I got the PCMCIA card!). So activation is not an issue. I'm running Mac OSX 10.5 on the laptop. Unfortunately, I'm only about 14 months into a 2 year contract, so I'm not sure I can even upgrade/replace my S720 at this point (unless I shell out full price).
As a side note, I borrowed a Verizon USB720 and was just AMAZED at how I just plugged it into the Mac and it started working instantly. Just amazed (yes, I've lived in the PC world my whole life!).
Anyway, please let me know your suggestions. Since I've had good luck with Novatel, I'm leaning toward that (even though Sprint's web site doesn't list it as a supported card for the Mac, only the Sierra lists Mac).
Thanks!

the reason the USB720 worked instantly is that OSX has built in drivers for it.
OSX also has built in drivers for the EX720, and its for THAT reason the EX720 is the best expresscard option.
the software you must install to use 597E is rumored not to be a universal app and has caused kernel panics. |

Not sure thats still the case with OS X 10.5 Leopard. It also has built-in support for Sierra wireless device. I have not personally tested a 597E on my MBPro, so I would still recommend the EX-720 over the 597E anyday, just wanted to put in my 2 cents here |

| I just bought a new Lenovo Y410 notebook running Vista home premium. Any idea which card - either EX720 or 597E - has better/easier compatibility with Vista?[/b][/b] |
