WARNING...

When I installed on my XP laptop, it took a VERY long time to install, seemed like it was frozen. I was installing on top of a previous SCM. It took around 5 minutes after it got done installing before the "success" page came up.

Anyone able to get the new SCM to work with VMWare installed? I cannot get SCM to work in any way, even if not using VMWare. It sees the card but won't maintain a connection. No luck with either Vista or XP that have VMWare installed. If I install on a laptop with no VMWare, SCM works fine. And the old SCM 3.x works great with VMWare.

I suspect it's about the network interfaces that VMWare creates and SCM conflicts.

Have to go back to SCM 3.x.

Sprint, if you're watching please check into this.

Update: Just confirmed it is VMWare. Went into Network Connections for Windows and disabled the VMWare network interfaces. The SCM connection now works. But with VMWare sessions running, there is then no network within the virtual machines. Works fine with SCM 3.x.

Windows XP Home & Novatel S720

Be patient when you install SCM v1.10.00.23.0 (herein SCM1.x23). The installation took 8 minutes 36 seconds from clicking the Install button after acceptance of the agreements to "Finish". 5 minutes and 41 seconds into it I began getting "Found new hardware" flags in the task bar. I also got a "Device may not work properly" flag, but have noticed no problems.

SCM1.x23 seems to work fine in both the dial-up and NDIS modes. As with all other SCM versions, the installation adds a dial-up configuration named "3G Connection" in the Network Connection controls panel (dial-up mode) and, if you are connected in NDIS mode, a configuration named "Novatel Wireless Connection" under LAN or High-Speed Internet.

Immediately after installation it asks you to restart. If you do not want SCM1.x23 to be your WiFi manager as well, I recommend you disable that function before restarting by deselecting SCM1.x23>Tools>Client>"Use this as my default Wi-Fi management utility". If not, the restart will take a considerable amount of time while is rewickers your WiFi configurations.

As with SCM1.x22, it appears to use only GPS satellites for the location functions and not ground antennas, so you must be outdoors for any location functions to work. Without a satellite signal the map positions you in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Somehow, SCM1.x23 has returned to the HA I used with Novatel SCM3.10.011 - primary 68.28.153.76 (Roachdale, IN) and secondary 68.28.81.76 (Kansas City - without my making any HA adjustments and even though I had uninstalled all previous SCMs and deleted the residual Sprint or Novatel folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data prior to installation. Good job Sprint! I have not yet attempted to see if we can change the HA.

The WWAN/NDIS functionality is still broken for the PX-500. It shows as "Network cable unplugged".

Why do they even ship the driver if it does not work?

Otherwise it went fine on XP SP3 RC1 (3264)

Talk about a piece of bulky software. 30 megs just for a interface and a pile of drivers preinstalled.

The program uses several processes to ensure that it's installed carefully, ranging from a FIND app to search out older versions of the connection software, to digging through the system registry for rogue entries, to going through the device manager, looking for and removing older drivers.

It'll be slow, sure, but the team that chipped this one together wanted to make sure that no conflicts exist.

Works for me, updated my firmware on my PX-500

I can understand the large install file since it includes drivers for many kinds of devices. But it does take a while to install and the installer should show a better progress indicator, showing % complete or something as it does make you wonder if the install hung.

Hope they fix the VMWare problem. We have dozens in our IT shop using VMWare and the new SCM doesn't work at all even if not using VMWare. Just the presence of the VMWare network interfaces causes issues. SCM 3.x works great. Sprint, I know you are watching. Please put this on your list of issues as SCM 1.x doesn't work for us and we need to use both VMWare and EVDO.

Thanks for bringing that to light. It explains why it takes so long to install. I'm sure they will improve it steadily.

Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, U720

Installed, but with errors. Also had to manually install U720 drivers through device manager, by pointing it to connection manager folder.

Upload speed is a little faster, down stayed the same, although I average well over 140Kb second anyway.

One thing that still erks me is the increased latency when using NDIS mode. Latency under RAS pinging Google averages 80-95ms. Ndis adds roughly 20% to my latency...

My system is VISTA 32bit with Pantech 500

First I tried installing it on top of the old version, didn't seem to work well so I uninstalled everything and removed the folders created for the program manually so I could do an almost fresh install. After that it worked fine, installed properly but a little slow, and I was able to connect. Installed using the new acceleration option "byte...something"

My problem is, that I'm receiving a firmware update for my Pantech 500 but I'm unable to install it. When the install process start it takes me all the way to a firmware update screen where I have to click on update and then it says the firmware file is incorrect for my card. I cannot understand how could it be the wrong file if the CM software itself is downloading it.

In addition, when CM starts I get a message saying that a new PRL is available and ask me to click UPDATE to get it. When I click update all I get is a message from windows saying that CM stoped working and is looking for a solution OR the CM software just does nothing. When it does nothing I leave it running for a while but the PRL never updates. I tried manual update but it says the PRL file is not the right one. I downloaded it from the Corolada web page and the version should be 60610 or 60611 but it just don't take it.

Can anyone help me with this?

When you go to SCM>Tools>Mobile Info, what firmware version and PRL are listed? Though my Novatel S720 would be different, it lists firmware of 145 and a PRL of 60611 and is working fine.

Try a manual PRL update.
1. Download PRL 60611 from http://corolada.com/prl
2. Leave card in, but in disconnected state.
3. Mouse over the signal bars
4. Hit ##PRL.
5. Locate the downloaded PRL file with the browse button and click OK

Nighthawke had a successful PX-500 installation. Ask him what firmware versions appears in SCM>Tools>Mobile Info.

If your computer goes to sleep while connected in NDIS mode, the data card does not reconnect when coming out of sleep. However, it no longer freezes as it did in the previous version (SCM1.x22). Now you just need to remove the card and reinsert it and it reconnects smoothly.

Up until recently when I minimized Sprint Connection Manager I think it minimized to the 'notification area' (to the right, if your task bar is at the bottom of the screen).

Now when I minimize the SCM it becomes a taskbar button. Am I dreaming about what it used to do...or is this a change with the new version.
Thanks,
