|
|
I'm looking at purchasing a CTR-350 and Verizon U720. I want to use the Ethernet port on the CTR-350 as a LAN. Is it possible to disable the wireless network and run only on the wired Ethernet?
If it is possible to disable the wireless, would I be able to access the admin web page from the LAN port? |

Yes you can disable the wireless, and yes, you can access the admin page from the LAN (or the WAN, if you specifically enable it, though you shouldn't unless you have a really good reason).
When you get a chance, check out the messages in this section, as most of the questions you have, and will have, are probably already answered. (I answered the above question twice in the past few days; the search command is your friend).
Also, be aware that the CTR-350 firmware that supports the LAN function is currently only available if you get the 350 from the 3gstore, and they have great deals when you get the modem and service and router at the same time...
I don't work for the 3gstore or anything, I just buy from them.

Hey Billy, you actually can't disable the wireless in a CTR, at least I don't know of a way to. The configuration pages let you turn the transmit way down, and hide the SSID, but I've never seen a "Disable Wireless" featuer.
Otherwise Jason, I agree with Billy, the CTR350 is a great little unit and it is great to work with. 3GStore does all kinds of great specials and such and they run this forum, and they have their own customer support team, so you'll be taken care of.
I'd highly recommend a CTR350. |

Basic Screen, Wireless Subscreen, Enable Wireless Radio choice.
If you uncheck Enable Wireless Radio, it disables (turns off) the WiFi.
Must be easy to miss, as LOTs of people are missing it.

The newest version firmware 1.7.3 dropped that feature to disable wireless.

You're absolutely right! I'm running 1.7.3, and it's not there. The help files, which I used to generate the manual I use, haven't been updated to reflect the 1.7.3 changes, and that's one of them.
Seems I've been giving out bogus advice...
I wonder why they removed it?

It was removed in version 1.6.1.
Previously, there wasn't ethernet support, so if you disabled WiFi, you would have bricked your router - no way to connect to it.
We are talking with our friends at CradlePoint about this topic currently. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Yes I just checked the board and searched for the same question. The help files show it but they took it out.
I started having problems with my Wi-Ex repeater the same time I got my CTR350 working or soon after, I can't quite remember but it would have been that evening or the next day. Wi-Ex tech support is suggesting it may be interference and I am checking that out even though it's doubtful. I unplugged all of my AP's and cordless phones, the only thing I have left is the CTR350.
Since I need the repeater to test my EVDO modem I can't take it to another room. I guess I can install the modem in a laptop instead of the CTR but it just became apparent today that you can't shut off the WiFi radio. It would be a welcome feature for those of us who have AP's with better antennas.
