|

My setup has been a Treo 700P with Mobile Stream USB Modem;
(anti spam filter)mobile-stream.com/usbmodem.html
$24.95 app extends the Treo's data to the USB cable or BlueTooth as if you had a card instead. Works absolutely great! My thought was to explore the ability to add the CTR-350 to my setup and eliminate the fooling with PPP dialing on the Mac since Leopard seems to have broken connectivity with USB Modem- it works exactly one time and then you have to delete the NIC and create a new one.
Anyhow- The CTR-350 see's the modem:

But there is no way to dial the #777 needed..
I've installed the 3GStore firmware too. |

I e-mailed CradlePoint about this before and they said they are testing the Treo devices, but they do something funky with their data connections that they are going to have to build into the CTR, so it's going to take time.
That was about a month ago though, so maybe we'll see it in the somewhat near future. |

Well- using the Mobile Stream USB Modem software it more or less makes it a USB modem- you just need to be able to dial #777 to get a connection. I would think it wouldn't be too hard..
Might call Sprint and see if it is just $5 to add the internet to my second phone and replace the Motorola cheap handset with something that can do EV-DO. |

| They will probably just have to write something similar into the CTR to get it to work. |

Wow, they support it now- a friend called to ask me which Sprint USB modem he should get to use with my router and I went to look at the model numbers and then it hit me after about 5 minutes. The screen says Treo 700P, 700W and 755P. I just wish they would post the docs/release notes with the firmware updates.
The question still lurks though, using these with just a phone, does the data charges start to rack up or is this being used in a stealth way?
Right now with the Treo I use USB Modem from Mobile Stream. It does not incur charges as if tethered.
I guess we've been 'worried' for years about it, but Sprint has never made it hard to do, I've been tethering the phone since "Wireless Web" was first offered. |
