|
|
| I use my evdo connection for online first person shooters like, CS, and COD4 (i know, i know, but I have no other choice, the school network is a joke) I get like medium lag, usually ping about 170 in chicago servers and like 160 ish in ny servers, but it still holds me back. I was wondering if there is any possible way to overall speed up connection so possible my lag could go down a little. I only get like 2 bars, and thats with a booster antenna, but if need be i can get an amplifier if you think it would help. Thanks a bunch! |

signal gain is not likely to get you any better latency.
to find out, drive closer to tower and get best signal you can.
if latency improves reliably, then work to improve your signal. |

FPS'ers are the best games to play on EVDO.
The question I have if you have a steady 170s ping with two bars or you are jumping around a lot. Try this ping command in dos prompt:
ping www.google.com -n 20
See if your pings stay fairly constant with a little varation or you have a couple timeouts or spikes 700+. If you have those spike problems then a antenna may help.
The best way to check was driving to a better signal area and testing but since you have a desktop it's not easy. |

nexter... I am not even in the mapped coverage area for sprint.... I am about a mile past where they say it stops .....I bought a wilson amp and wilson trucker antenna and I play counter strike source daily...... my ping is usually around 140 or so but at times I get clear down to about 110.... the amp made a huge difference for stabalizing my connection.....I never notice any lag and I only have two bars with about a -95 signal ....I am considering getting a 24 db boost grid antenna to try to get an even better signal!!!! dont give up.......I am sure you can order the amp and try it out to see if it improves your ping and connection and if it doesn't you can send it back as long as it isnt past your 15 day return period!!!!
as Alex said tho its not a gaurantee to get you a better ping but it sure is worth a try !!!!... |

I have huge spikes, it goes from like 660 to 1250 to 440 to like 1160.
Would an amplifier help fix the spikings?? |

| I guess but like, I'm desperate as in I have to fix the problem asap, so trying to find one to borrow would just be wasting more time that I don't have. |

| my main question now is, will getting an amplifier make my connection more consistent? Like less lag spikes? |

| nexter have you ever tried to change your home address .... if not look into the ##DATA tuning on this forum an try that .... Any time I am getting an inconsistant ping i chnge my home addy till i get one that works .... you will need your msl code.... but if you have not tried that it is worth your time trying cause it works for me everytime.....the towers get overloaded from time to time and it helps to find one on the network that has less traffic....i would still recommend trying to stay as close to your state as possible but try a few of them ... try the illinois one and the indiana one see if it helps ....worth a shot.... as for your question the amp could make a difference but its hard to say w/o trying it !!!!! hope you get it all worked out ....I know the feeling of wanting to play the games!!!!! |
