I have a Verizon USB720, which I use on my laptop (most often) and occasionally on my desktop. My laptop is my primary computer. I want to be able to network to my desktop to share files and remotely print to USB printers connected to my desktop.

I've been reading all this stuff and about the EVDO routers for a couple of hours and I think an EVDO router is what I need, but, of course, I'm confused and have questions.

Does the USB720 connect directly the EVDO router and, if so, I assume all that could be located in the room with the desktop. I don't want to have to connect anything other than the USB720 modem to my laptop.

Will the KR1 do what I need or should I wait for the newer version? The speed with my USB720 on my laptop is usually very good and sometimes really slow. Is there something else (like an antenna) that I can purchase to make it fast (or faster) all the time? I don't know how to interpret the -dBm readings. I don't know what's fast and what's slow. A guy from Verizon told me it should be reading something like -89dBm, but I'm usually at about -45dBm.

So, what I need to know is: (1) whether an EVDO router will let me share files and printers between my laptop and desktop; (2) would I connect the EVDO router to my desktop and connect the USB720 to it; (3) do I need an antenna to get the most out of my USB720; and (4) should I wait for the new version of the Kyocera KR1 or buy something different?

I realize I'm asking for a lot to have my questions answered in language I can understand, but I would be very, very appreciate if someone would help me.

Thanks,
Susie

check out the CTR-350 its a great router from what i can tell and also i think it will do what you want .....if you have questions maybee call the guys at the 3Gstore.com they are always of great help and are the pros at this stuff......an antenna couldnt hurt and that also is something that they could better answer for you after getting your signal strength and dload and upload speeds.....

Thanks for your reply. I'll look at the router you suggested and will also give the guys a phone call to see if they can further guide me.
Thanks again,
Susie

we spent a lot of time writing our review of the CTR350. check it out:

http://www.EVDOinfo.com/CTR350

it works really well with the USB720. here's what it looks like together:

as for the antenna... if your RSSI is 'usually at about -45dBm' then signal is not your problem. could be tower load.

feel free to give us a call on monday with any questions you have.

Thank you for your quick reply. I read through most of the review -- some of it just doesn't compute for me. It did so it won't work for connecting printers, but I'll give y'all a call Monday and find out what exactly is best for what I need.
Thanks again,
Susie

I ordered a Verizon USB 727, a CTR 350 and antenna and they should be here on Tuesday.

I am hoping to get 2 desktops and a laptop to share the wireless internet. My main desktop will connect to the CTR 350 by ethernet cable and my other desktop and laptop will coneect by wireless.

I am a newbie BIG TIME and have not worked with this type of "stuff" at all. I have just read and read on this forum. Until 2 weeks ago I did not even know this possibilty existed. See my first posts under >>>>Verizon EVDO Service (BroadbandAccess & NationalAccess)>>>>verizon evdo and router --- a newbie at all of this

I ordered from the 3GStore because I read great things about their support and I may just need a helping hand.

I will let you know how things go with me next week.

Oh, excellent!! Thanks so much for bothering to reply. Please do keep me posted. I went to the review that the site admin. pointed me to and it said that the device would NOT connect printers. So, I'll call them Monday and see what they say.
Thanks again,
Susie
