Guys I have been with sprint for almost 3 years, But I have been searching for a different service provider because of the better offers out there in plans etc. I heard that HELIO uses the sprint or verizon network I don't know wich one is the main network and wich one is the roaming network.
I bought the Ocean Helio last week (love it) I compared the signal of my sprint phones to the helio signal and they seem to be the same one. On places where my sprint phone goes roaming the Helio roams too, so I think they use Sprint network as they main provider.( but with better price)
The weird thing is that the EVDO speed tests I have made on dslreports.com/mspeed using the 1MB file it always says choose a larger file, sometimes I get speed of 1888kbps and 2237kbps less or more, but most of the times I get the choose a larger file.
I started to look for a mobile speedtest site that haves a larger file or better way to measure the speed and while using www.mobilespeedtest.com I'm getting minimun of 2,000kbps up to 4627kbps and only once or twice between 7mb's to 8mb's.
Have anyone with verizon or sprint have experience this speeds?
I downloaded a 5mb file directly to the phone and while using a timer to see how fast the download really is, I got a estimate of 9 to 10 seconds dowloading time average of 3800kbps = 475KB/s
Is read that the Helio OCEAN has better technology in CDMA than much phones out there right now, it's used in korea where the mobile broadband speeds are much faster in the 7mbs up, but are sprint or verizon really offering those speeds on their EVDO network? are the current Sprint/ Verizon phones limited to get less speed on purpose???
I know companies limit things to compete on prices etc, no cable company wants a EVDO usb card faster than their Cable internet for the same price.
I think that Sprint and Verizon limit their phone speeds on purpose, I bet you in a year or two they will start to sell new PDA's etc capable of more speed so you can buy it, and they only unlock the speed limit on the phones.
My Sprint Treo 750wx best speeds are in the 900kbps here in Orlando, FL
and my Helio Ocean is on the 3mb's up
Here is a test with 2-3 signal bars only, I get better speeds on full signal

Try...
dslreports.com/mspeed
Helio does use the Sprint network. But on phones, the phone itself is typically the bottleneck. Or sometimes it's the phone's browser, especially on Palm phones. Apparently the Helio phone has a more efficient browser with less bottlenecks than other phones. But the test site you're using is showing impossible results.. over 3.2Mbps isn't possible. |

| Tests through Opera Mini browser will not be accurate as they are run through a proxy which will greatly inflate the results. Tests done through a different browser if available through dslreports.com/mspeed would be more accurate. And yes, phone speed tests will always be slower than PC speed tests as the bottleneck is the phone itself. |

Like I said before on my last post, I have tried www.dslreports.com/mspeed on both browsers Helio browser and Opera browser, and I use the 1mb file, and when I get low signal on my phone the speeds are from 1.7Mbps to 2.2Mbps BUT if I have good signal the and I test using the 1mb file it downloads to quickly and it says choose a larger file. |
