|
|
I've just replaced my Verizon Wireless "Unlimited" (i.e., limited) broadband card with a Sprint account and a Pantech PX-500 card. As hoped, my performance is vastly better: I'm on the fringe of a Verizon EV-DO area and had absolutely terrible performance with Verizon, while now I have quite acceptable if not blazing performance with the PX-500. That's the good news. The bad news is that the WAN connection continues to drop frequently, requiring a restart of the KR1. I got the PX-500 card Saturday and had my first restarts Sunday morning, and each day since has required four or five of them.
So now I'm thinking the KR1 has to go. I'd welcome any thoughts on the best replacement, including waiting for the KR2, with stable operation being a top priority. As I just bought the PX-500, I can exchange it for another Sprint card within thirty days, so compatibility with this card isn't an issue.
Many thanks,
Andy |

the hot ticket right now is the cradlepoint routers.
but to use them, you need something other than px500.
consider returning that, and getting a U727 from 3gstore.
we sell the U727 for less than sprint online, and then discount the antennas and routers we sell.
find out more on the order form at

fyi, for many reason, we feel pcmcia is a dying breed:

Hi Alex,
Just noticed your reply to my post -- for some reason I didn't receive the usual e-mail notification when you posted it. Anyway, thanks. I did exactly as you suggested and I'm very happy with my new Cradlepoint CTR350 router combined with the EX720 ExpressCard, a Sprint account, and an ExpressCard-to-USB adapter from 3Gstore.com. I had a very clear Skype call from Ohio to Hong Kong, which seems like a pretty stringent test for the whole setup.
Thanks again,
Andy |

Alex or Andy,
Can the Cradle Point wireless mode be turned off and used as a modem like I do the KR1 now that the ethernet item has been resolved? I looked through the screen captures of the Cradle Point and didn't see where you might be able to tune off the wireless mode?? Right now I run my KR1 through my hopped up Linksys router with the wireless mode off. The Cradle point would be great for me for my traveling of which I do a lot of. It could also serve as a backup for the KR1 so I was wondering since there is no external antenna or connection for such.
Thanks... Tony |

Tony,
I don't see anywhere in the Cradlepoint configuration where you can turn off its Wifi support. I think the closest you could achieve would be to set up rules that effectively prevent it from accepting any connections. This would be simple to do by enabling MAC address filtering, setting it to accept only listed addresses, and then not entering any addresses.

Strange, my configuration screen doesn't include the checkbox described.
