|

Just a note to all you looking for a solution for your MacBook or MacBook pro with OSX Leopard - the CDU-680 works perfectly. I've never had such an easy time installing the software for an external device. I plugged it in and it showed up as an external drive, ran the mac installer (built in to the card!) and I was up and running in under two minutes!
My father in law set his up on his Dell with XP and it took him about 10 minutes to get it going. I love showing off my macbook...
Be sure to go with 3Gstore.com, these guys offer great mac support (not that you'll need it though).... _________________ Motorola Q News - http://www.qusers.com |

Other cards work under Leopard with the same ease of setup. It's not the card, it's the OS (x)...
An example...
Select under the Apple Menu "Shutdown.."
A dialog appears offering Cancel or Shutdown and tells you that it will shutdown automatically in 2 minutes if you do nothing.
To Shutdown on Windows XP I have to click, of all things, the START button and about a week later I get to shut down after select an option from a popup menu and then click a button.
Starting up is just as convoluted... |

Oh, I'm sure most cards work fine with OSX, I just only can report on my success story.
Do other cards have built-in drivers? Or do you have to use an install CD? Or do you not have to install a driver at all? _________________ Motorola Q News - http://www.qusers.com |

|

I recently began experimenting with the CDU-680. It has worked on 2 or 3 out of 4 machines I tried it on:
WinXP desktop: worked as expected.
WinXP on Toshiba notebook: XP did not have a pre-installed USB mass storage device driver that would work on the CDU-680, so the CDU-680 was not recognized as a drive (but other USB thumbdrives worked). Additionally, when the driver search routine looked for the driver online, it could not find one. So the EVDO drivers could not be installed normally. I inserted the CDU-680 in the working desktop (mentioned above), and samba shared the EVDO drivers for it. The CDU-680 drivers installed w/out error on the Toshiba notebook. But after rebooting and plugging the CDU-680 in, the notebook did not find the EVDO modem either.
OS/X (Tiger) on a B&W G3: Everything installed as expected, but there was no signal. "Connect" was grayed out. This may simply be due to being out in the boonies.. however, the CDU-680 was able to find a roaming signal when it was on a PC in the other room.
OS/X (Tiger) on a P4: Works. Dropped connection once, but was generally reliable.
The CDU-680 driver for the PC gives more information (like whether the device is roaming, and signal strength in dBs).. but the Mac driver was better in terms of being tucked away. It's an icon in the tray rather than a separate window. |

|
|
I read that there is a Leopard Fix Software Patch for the CDU-680 - is this what is at http://www.fklt.com/support.php under Leopard?
When you pull the CDU-680 out, it gives an error message, and I've heard this patch fixes this. I just installed my software from the card built-in.
I don't want to double install if it's not necessary. _________________ Motorola Q News - http://www.qusers.com |
