I live in RTP near the end of the 147. I just bought an a940 and so far am not seeing ev-do here. I am maxing out at like 140kb/s. the icon on my phone should be different when connected to ev-do and it is not. I have not had a chance to test it anywhere else though.

Give me an intersection near you. I'll look at the network map.

Alright I did some driving around today scouting some ev-do. I live within 2 mi of the 54/55 intersection. sofar around there no ev-do. I then took 54 to old Ch. Hill Rd. (Sprint store) and no ev-do. I then went north on 55 to Briggs Ave. no ev-do, took 147 from Briggs ave to 40, then to the airport. Bingo I got ev-do starting near Davis dr. I was watching my phine the whole time so i saw no intermitent ev-do north of Davis dr. Also where ever I stopped I tried shutting off my phone and turning it on to try to reset. There is an icon on my screen which appears whenever I have ev-do signal. Btw near the ariport i did a speed check, using bluetooth connection w/ my notebook i maxed out at 360Kbit. Here is a map of where I tested.

Sprint's DO coverage maps are offline. Perhaps they are updating them. They need to be as there are areas marked as 'future coverage' that now have it and even areas not marked for 'current or future' that actually have DO. Sprint may be hurting sales by not having updated maps.

http://www.sprint.com/business/products/products/evdoEnterZip.jsp

Sprint claimed in mid-Nov to cover 130million population vs. Verizon's claim of 140 million. Sprint is saying 150million by (or before?) 2006.

Sprint's tower maps are now back online and they appear to be updated some but not entirely up-to-date. A friend of mine has EVDO with 5 bars and 1Mb+ but the map doesn't even show his location will have FUTURE coverage.

Sprint's EVDO maps were just updated again. Several cities that were listed with future coverage now show as activated. Jacksonville and Nashville now show activated coverage in areas shown as 'future' last week.

Looks like Conn and Mass coverage has been extended.

But the maps still don't show areas I'm aware of that have EVDO but not shown on the maps, even for future. The maps are still pretty conservative but more accurate than the past.

It still appears to be the case that Sprint is in more markets than Verizon (especially the 500K-1.5M markets) but Verizon has exurbs (lightly populated outer edges) of some of the larger markets better covered. Or so the maps indicate.

Both claim to cover about 150 million population at this point.

My son got a Samsung MM-A940. We receive coverage in select areas but the sprint store in our area hasn't much info. We know of one tower that my son get it.....the store doing sales of evdo cards with new customer get it Although not officially announced,

The city just announced with sprint Data contract with police fire and rescue will all have data cards... Officially no word of EVDO ...hope they follow-up and turn up more of their network maybe just testing..... My son likes the device... says the sync mini SD card with PC stinks. Probably would have got the new treo if Sprint had Win version, other then the size..

I've had a 300 still use 600 till win 700

I need to check our copy at work but someone posted that in RCR Wireless news, Page 8 of January 23, it says that Sprint has recently been adding EVDO at a rate of covering 13 million population a week. If the case, Sprint's EVDO coverage could be over 180m population by now.

Sprint has recently been talking about 'statewide' coverage. I don't know how that differs from 'nationwide' but they have been doing a good job at adding a lot of smaller cities in some states. f you are in outlying areas, hopefully you get it soon.

This article suggests Sprint will cover 260m with EVDO next year, greater than 100% of network today. So if you get a 1xRTT signal today, it will likely be EVDO by next year.
