I'm running a macbook, 10.5.1, on my verizon phone w/ the VZ office kit. Just found the USB modems. Other than freeing up my phone, are there any significant, or even marginal, performance enhancements that would merit a switch to the usb, all things being equal w/ regular solid three to four bars in the house. Does the Y cable provide significant improvement on speed?

whether or not you will see much improvement depends on what you are seeing for speeds now. why not do a test at speedtest.net and report your results here? (you won't be able to post a graphic just yet. just tell us download/upload/latency numbers)

your phone is not a Rev-A device like the USB modems are. Rev-A speeds are typically faster than Rev-0 devices will ever achieve.

Well, Alex, best i could get at speedtest was 130kbps dwn and 30kpbs up, 100miles, and 975. Which seems in line with my monitoring the VZ Access Mgr status windows and my bit torrent rates. So, if this indicates that I may do better w/usb modem than phone, i'd be best looking at USB727? Can't seem to find if that modem has a vertical mount like UM150

those speeds aren't broadband at all. sounds like you are only in national access (1xrtt) coverage area. if so, then there is no speed advantage to getting a USB727.

you may want to email us your full street address with zipcode so we can research coverage better. send it to sales@ 3gstore.com if you wish.

My bad. I'm rurally deprived and live in national access land. That's already been confirmed by Verizon. I am mobile and get the broadband when downtown. Sounds like a moot point on the USB other than freeing up the phone? The NA is still far superior to dial up....Duh!
Any other thoughts on increased speeds within my parameters greatly appreciated.

i guess moving house is not within parameters? Wink

the speeds you are getting are excellent examples of 1xrtt. hard to fix that.
