PostPosted: Tue Dec 11, 2007 12:50 pm    Post subject: RAS versus NDIS

I was playing with the dials and did a little reading on RAS/NDIS and decided "what the heck, lets use NDIS" because I'm on windows. Haven't really notice a negative effect and it's probably more windows friendly since it was designed by Microsoft anyway.

Thoughts?

using xp/595U/SCM 1.3.10

I have trouble streaming video with NDIS enabled on my U727. If I go dial-up, the same site works flawlessly.

Is this network wireless or CAT5? Here's the workup on how NDIS works from the wiki...

"The NDIS is a Logical Link Control (LLC) that forms the upper sublayer of the OSI data link layer (layer 2 of 7) and acts as an interface between layer 2 and 3 (the Network Layer)"

"One component of Wireless Zero Configuration is the NDIS User Mode I/O (NDISUIO) NDIS protocol driver. NDISUIO is a Microsoft-signed driver which comes as part of Windows XP. In most situations it is already bound to installed IEEE 802.3 miniports."

So the bottom line is if you are not using NDIS in a windows enviro, then you are using a semi broken network.
