I recently moved to a very rural location beyond the reach of tradition broadband sources, cable and DSL. At first I went with Hughes Satellite. The equipment and installation fees were outrageous ($400+), the monthly service price expensive ($79+taxes and fees), the ping rate was through the roof, download speeds crawled at slightly above dial-up (~60 kbps), and I don't even want to speculate what the upload speeds were. Other than that, Satellite was great!

When I couldn't take it anymore (2 hours), I began researching other options. It was then that I discovered www.evdoinfo.com. I did my research, and decided on a package: Verizon EV-DO RevA, USB720 modem, KR1 router, and free freedom antenna.

When I first got it, I didn't understand how I was supposed to set up the system, but the next day, after about 90 minutes on this forum, I set up the system correctly and it runs great!

I'm using the Keyocera KR1 firmware release RK1011; Novatel USB720 with VZ Access Manager version 6.3.7 1813c; and presently I am connected to a homebuilt desktop and a Xbox 360. The computer runs great, the Xbox 360 plays Halo 3 with no noticeable lag (certainly no more than I was used to with cable), and I have not been experiencing any of the dropped connection problems that many others using the same setup have recently complained about.

Stats:
Download: 1450kbps +
Upload: 350kbps +
Ping: 240ms
Reception: 10 bars.

I'm a happy camper.
