I am trying to load the USB727 on a Dell Inspiron e1705 running Vista 32-bit OS. BTW, I was on the phone with Verizon for an hour and a half last night to no avail.

I installed VZAccess. The setup wizard works fine until it asks you to insert the device. I insert the device it says to look on cd but cannot find the driver. I have also used the browse option in VZAccess to the driver.exe location in program files and it still cannot locate. I tried executing the driver.exe file outside of VZAccess and received an "Error 2738 Could not access VBScript" and something about a custom action. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling VZAccess. Restart the computer. Then directly plug the device in . . . same result. I don't know what else to do???? Thanks in advance.

At least for sprint, they say that there is a smaller version of the connection software built into the usb device. Could that be true for verizon too? But then again, if windows doesn't know what to do with the new device, you can't get to the drivers (unless there's a pseudo rom drive built into the device for the mini app).

I fixed the problem and thought I would share the experience. First, I am computer literate but not a wiz. I spent a total of 3.5 hours on the phone with Verizon. In fact, my case was elevated to a higher status and there are working on it as I surf the web. With hindsight, I am sure this problem could have been solved much faster. First, the drivers . . . VZAccess manager was failing to load the drivers on the setup screen that asks you to insert the card. I tried initiating the driver from its *.exe file. I received a VB script error. After searching around, I ran "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" in the command prompt and that allowed vb scripts to run. I guess, not sure on that but it worked. After that I was able to load the drivers. I tried running VZAccess setup wizzard again thinking the problem is solved. The program did not recognize the modem. Then I noticed in device manager the usb727 modem was not appearing but an "Other Device" with an exclamation was present. I clicked properties and looked at the driver and none was present. I assigned the driver under the VZAccess program file to the new device. BAM! The modem is immediately recognized as a modem and hopefully its clear surfing from here on out. Last word: tech support should have recognized this. They suck!!!

The Novatel Wireless USB Modem USB727 drivers are located in:

C:\Program Files\Verizon Wireless\VZAccess Manager\Drivers\Novatel\filename.exe (I can't remember the file name) Question

With the modem plugged in, double click the .exe file and allow it to uninstall, then double click again to re-install the drivers.
