I have a Everun UMPC with a mini-PCI card (extracted from a USB720) for EVDO access.

VZACCESS was a PIA. Pop-up window after pop-up window every time I came out of standby. About 1/3 the time VZACCESS wouldn't be able to find the mini-pci card after coming out of standby. VZACCESS software did not deliver me the immediately available internet experience I was hoping for. When I turned off the WWAN card (fn-F8 ), I would once again deal with disruptive pop-up after pop-up window.

So I dumped it. Now I just use the normal network connection defined to dial #777 to get to the internet. Works like a charm, dials in and takes about 1-2 seconds to get internet access when I open IEXPLORE. VZACCESS took 5-10 sec for that.

Plus, hidden benefit: I get internet connections in places where VZACCESS said I didn't have a connection, as in 500-600 kbps downloads. Go figure...

I'd love to. Whatever I do, though, I get a 'modem error' message when I try to connect with what I have configured, even though the modem is supported in the native (Mac OS X) software and I've filled in all the blanks according to information I can find in these archives. I wonder if I have the wrong password; did you just use vzw for that?

The VZACCESS software had made a network connection when it installed. Trying to connect with that one gave the message "This Connection can only be used with VZACCESS (error QA907)".

I made a new connection, and made sure every block matched the VZACCESS connection (which had been named "NationalAccess-BroadbandAccess" and dials "#777"). There is no password.

Hm, I have to say, simple, I wish I had done it ages ago, as the pop-up windows VZaccess gives where starting to tick me off bad.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Hey guys,

I have done this and can get connected just fine but my speeds are in the crapper. It looks to me that I am only getting RTT 1X speeds of 130 K. Is there anything that you know of that would prevent me from getting access to the EVDO network?

Also I got this working without any username or password. Would that be the culprit?

Thanks!

Never mind... I was the idiot who neglected to configure the modem for a mazimum speed of 921,600 bps. It was set on the default of 115,200.

Now I am the same with and without VZAccess. Thanks because this way I can have the modem automatically connect with ICS!

TMarks..A Big Thank You.
KPC-650 Rev0 now has 40% download
speed increase...WOW! Now 1,065 down from previous 650 down.
I now use #777 access and it connects in 1/2 the time and streams video without stopping & starting.
Big Difference!

I too have the KPC-650 air card. Could/would someone post the instruction on how to set it up this way?

Do you have to delete the Verizon menu, or can you have a choice as to which you use?

After reading this tread I did the #777 trick and my connection speed nearly doubled and the connection is rock solid despite a questionable -98db connection.

Great tip!!!!!

I am using the USB720 and simply choose it to be the default modem in winders Vista...used #777 for the dial up and bingo.

Hi All-

Great forum!!

I just bought the USB727 and it will be here Monday I am reading this thread and I have a quick question as I am trying to line my ducks up before it gets here.

(1) I do not need to install the VZW software at all? If not is there any downside to not using it or having it?

(2) If i dont need VZW software and I am going to create a new connection do I need to put in a password?

When I tether with my phone I created a new connection and use #777 and then as the password VZW. my user name is my phone#@vzw3g.com does the USB727 get a phone number assigned like a phone does? and do i need to put in a username? i am using XP Pro

THANKS!

I did not have to do any of the passwords with the USB720, simply insert the card, install it as a 3g modem, enter #777 for the phone number..and thats it.
