If you cancel your service, you will no longer have service. This only removes the Verizon software from dialing (and managing?) your connection. You still have to have service to connect. |

Now I am the same with and without VZAccess. Thanks because this way I can have the modem automatically connect with ICS! |
Can someone explain this to me? How do I check the modem sttings and tell me how change them if needed?
Did a search with no luck. |
I can tell you, but it makes no difference. This speed configures the PHYSICAL port speed. As most modems are only using a com port as a virtual port, setting the PHYSICAL port speed when there isn't one doesn't change anything. For example, I have set mine to both ends of the spectrum, 921,600 bps and 1200 bps. My connection speed is essentially the same, as both speed tests reported over 400 kbps.
The only thing this changes is the connection link report. (Now if you were using a serial modem [not USB] then this matters.) In XP, the little balloon that pops up after connection will say whatever the speed that is set to.
To set this, (if you want to play with this yourself in XP), go into the start menu / setting / Network connections / Right click on your modem connection / choose properties. On the first screen will be a header saying "connect using" specifying the modem to use. Click configure. The first pulldown will be "Maximum speed". Set this to anything you like. |

I also used this advice with my Verizon UM150 USB Modem. I just unplugged the modem, deleted it's connection, uninstalled the Verizon software, plugged in the modem, created a new connection, and put #777 as the dial up number. No other information needed.
Works great and like the others in this post, my connection negotiated quicker and it appears my speed is up a little bit.
Thanks for the tip! |

| Does it help ping times at all? I've had my USB720 about 2 months now and my speeds are around 1MB down with 500 - 600 up depending on the time of day etc. With 4bars when I ping google I get about 330ms response. Judging by the other threads that ping time is rather high for getting 4 bars with around -67db. |

I just did this with my UM 150 also.
Connection works and says it is connected at 921 KBPS....But my speed is still ssooooo slow. About 1-100KBPS.
I recently went from 600-900KBPS to this speed using VZ access so I came across this thread and thought I would try it.
Can not understand why it says I am connected at that speed in the window but my pages load worse than dial up.
Any suggestions?
I do have the modem speed set to max. |

I'm trying to understand this. If we go through a standard "create new connection" - can you give me a step by step? It's fascinating to me that we don't need the verizon software to work with the UM150. I'm really interested of you can spare a moment _________________ Adversity is ? |

Do it like you would set up a Dial up connection
Start>settings>network connections Right click Open
Open the new connection wizard
selct connect to the internet
then "Set up my connection manually"
then "Connect using a Dial up modem"
Then Name ISP(anything like Verizon etc)
Then Then Phone Number Put in #777
Then "Account Info" leave blank
Then Finish
You will now have a Shortcut on your desk top that says,(whatever you named it)
Just click on it and the Dial up window will pop up.
Just connect like you would with a regular dial up connection.
It's basically the same thing the VZ softwre is doing but you are skipping all the other stuff their software does. |

Then uninstall the verizon software and any time I want to use it, I just double click on the shortcut first. Where would I change the settings to increase the speed?

You don't have to uninstall the VZ software just connect with the Dial up connection or the VZ.
You change your speed under your modem properties. set it to fastest. 115200
Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>devicemanager>
Right click on modem then properties then Modem tab |

How utterly simple....thanks, it works and one of the best benefits is that it uses MUCH less program (Verizon Manager) memory. I just haven't figured out how to get it beyond the 115,200 like others.
I appreciate the time you took to write me.

I have a USB modem on order also, my application is a computer in a vehicle which needs to be as user friendly as possible and connected whenever the computer is on. (running XP)
Because of this I was hoping to not use VZ, since it looks sorta cumbersome. To keep the connection alive there are many tools to ping a host or something every now and then, and we are using VPN software which I am sure will keep it alive.
But what about signal strength info? Anyone know of any tools to get this without using the entire VZ package? |

holy old thread restoration, batman. But maybe this info well help someone buying a $15 USB720 on ebay to extract the internal card...
I took it apart, but was able to do so without destroying the case.
Actually, I ended up eventually taking the card back out of my Everun and out it back in the usb 720 case so I could use it with my desktop/laptop while I was moving.
The biggest challenge in this type of conversion lies in getting a decent antenna; the ebay wifi microstrip antenna that I ended up with was not very good (designed for the wrong frequency). I had problems connecting indoors with it. Placed where the USB720 would have 5 bars, the wifi antenna would give me 2 bars or less.
YMMV. |

I have a USM150 and just did the recommended dump (actually I just created a new dialup connection) and couldn't be happier! It's faster to connect and the speed has increased.
Thanks to everyone for the responses and info! _________________ Verizon |
