Thanks for the info! When you say install it as a 3g modem how do you do that?

THANKS!

Uninstall all of the Verizon stuff, go into connection manager and delete the "Broadband Connection" or something like that. After that insert your modem and window will prompt you after that follow the wizard and enter #777 for the phone number.

Sorry if I am not providing enough detail but after reading this thread it was so easy I did not pay attention while installing it.

New to MacBook here, have MBP with OS
10.4.11 with V740 card.

Card works fine on Dell w XP, I consistently get a connection of 960kbps.

On the MBP with native OS support, I get 230kbps, perhaps I was missing the modem configuration piece. I just tried the VZW Manager 3.10 and got 144kbps. So I uninstalled the VZW Manager and the associated ports, and re-inserted/installed the V740 card using #777 to dial.

I connect but now Internet Connect doesn't show my connection speed. Where do I configure the port speed and what "modem" do I select? It defaults to Apple, but I see wwan in the option list. I haven't found a speed setting anywhere.

Later note: I just removed the V740 card and all defined ports, restarted, and re-installed the card. I consistently get 230400 bps. Where do I change the port speed for the card?

Thanks, M

From the results that you guys have reported in this thread, it leads me to believe that Verizon is using their VZAccess software to do some of the bandwidth throttling on their network.

Can anybody confirm this for sure?

Do I need to install drivers? When I popped the card in its asking for drivers. I had XP look auto on the net but it didnt find any and said the hardware might not work properly. I didnt want to install VZAccess I just wanted to use it with XP. Not sure what to do?

thanks!

Never mind... I was the idiot who neglected to configure the modem for a mazimum speed of 921,600 bps. It was set on the default of 115,200.

Now I am the same with and without VZAccess. Thanks because this way I can have the modem automatically connect with ICS!

Can someone explain this to me? How do I check the modem sttings and tell me how change them if needed?

Did a search with no luck.
