Hey folks, Earlier today i checked in to see what development has been done with OpenWRT. I found out that an update was available so i proceeded to download and update my router. Well, here's where the problems began. First, the upload page went blank, i thought it was no big deal so i waited about 10 mins. still no luck. I try to login through another browser and that got me no where. Eventually i power cycled the modem thinking it needed a 'reboot'. Well, now i'm trying to upload the orginal linksys firmware through tftp and it doesn't want to recognize the router address. The router won't assign me an ip address and it won't connect to the internet. i followed the openWRT wiki as far as tftp goes.. I was also reading that the folks over at the 3GStore found out how to unbrick routers?? i'm not sure what else to try as i run linux and windows and tried to do tftp in both. neither get anywhere. please tell me this router isn't bricked..

Hey folks, i got a few steps ahead and think i'm damn close to debricking the router. Right now i did verify that the router assumed default ip address and i am pinging it but the router is telling me i have a bad password for the tftp transfer.. Am i waiting too long to use tftp? the only two responses i've gotten are the invalid password and a timeout. yet the pings go from hardware error to request timed out to pinging.. Any ideas?

no pasword if using failsafe mode and tftp. Just ip of 192.168.1.1 and set it to try for a few dozen times if it fails 1st time.
Your comp is set with static IP of 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0
no gateway IP
Try port 1 on router first and then port 4 if no luck.
You need the .trx file if converting back to stock firm. _________________ A simple man. |

Thanks for the reply RangerW. I actually figured it out this morning.. When doing tftp make sure you start to ping while the router is on. Then unplug the router and it should read hardware error a couple of times, go ahead and start the tftp then plug the router back in. Should work like a charm and you should get transfer complete. after all this is done you might have to login to the router the default username and password for the linksys is
Username: blank
Password: admin
login and change the settings however you like.
Hope this helps some. Also, i used this link extensively during the process, it has a TON of good information as far as debricking goes...

If you just take time to read what it says about the linksys router i can promise you the router will be debricked.. there's i think, three methods described that can debrick your router.. Anyways, hope this helps some of you who had a bad flash!
