|
|
8/30 was the expiation date for Verizon's latest round of rebates on PC cards with new activation - anyone know if that'll get extended or introduced again?
Buy.com has the Novatel 620 for free after rebate now through the end of September, but I'm much more interested in the Kyocera KPC-650.

Any info would be appreciated. |

The buy.com rebate is one strange offer:
"To qualify and redeem the rebate, and to avoid an equipment discount charge back of $250, complete and sign the rebate form, provide copies of your sales receipt, guide to wireless service, a copy of the UPC from the product packaging, and a copy of a wireless bill for this account dated between 150 days and 210 days after activation showing the previous balance paid in full. Claim must be postmarked no earlier than 180 days after activation and no later than 210 days after activation. Void where prohibited. Your rebate check will be mailed within 10-12 weeks from receipt of your rebate submission as described above. "
Basically you hold on to all your documentation for 6 months and send everything in to avoid paying an extra $250. Odd. |

Slimy. That's a pretty pathetic way of discouraging people from submitting rebates, hoping they'll forget to file at the proper time...
Fact is, only a small percentage of people actually file for rebates: draconian policies like that are designed to make the numbers even lower.

OK, I have to ask why that is "slimy" ? As you said, its a way to minimize the number of people that actually submit for the rebate ... which is how they can offer such a good rebate .. because the actual cost of it to them is small.
So, if you really really want the good deal you go to the trouble of following their complex rules and you get a big reward... "paid for" as it were by those too lazy to be bothered .. result is that you get the benefit and the ones too lazy by definition subsidize you and don't care.
Rather than slimy it seems to be a win/win/win to me ... everyone gets exactly what they were willing to accept .. the company gets the statistical cost of the total program they were willing to provide, the lazy ones get the thing they bought without the rebate which they are willing to accept (else they'd have bothered with the rebate rigamaroll), and the truely thrifty get a great deal they wouldn't if the company simply reduced the initial price of the object since they'd only reduce about 5% of the rebate if they couldn't rely on 95% skipping the rebate.
So, were you complaining or celebrating? _________________ Did you ever stop to think .... and then forgot to start again? |
