Looks like Verizon has recently updated their Terms of Service (TOS):

Quote:
If usage exceeds 5 GB per line during any billing period, we reserve the right to reduce throughput speeds of any application that would otherwise exceed such speed to a maximum of approximately 200 Kbps. These speeds are subject to change, in our reasonable discretion, in order to address network issues

From:

http://b2b.vzw.com/broadband/bba_terms.html

There have been many users that have been "trying" to get terminated, but haven't been successful for the last few months (because Verizon stopped terminating).

Now, it looks like Verizon might just throttle you back, IF you go over.

I'm actually happy they are doing this. It's a lot more fair than just canceling your service. I understand their need to keep the network from being over-saturated.

I think it's good that they are finally coming clean. I also think it is much more reasonable that they throttle you down after the 5GB limit as opposed to flat out cancelling you.

I wish vzw would continue to cancel that way maybe sprint can be no. 1 for EVDO.

That 5gb is why I went with sprint in the first place. I got a good deal with the card for free. Had to wait for rebates, but got them and all is working great.

I use a lot of video, which will eat up 5 gb in no time.

I wonder if they will kick you back to the NationalSlowAcess, where the latency is high and bandwidth is nowhere near 200kbps?

Now if it was the same nice RevA latency just capped to 200kbps, thats not to bad imo. Thats enough for some low streaming vid/audio, some gaming and vent/ts..

Actually NationalAccess (1xRTT) max is 144kbps, which I often achieve with a good signal (-70 dB).

I think that they will just limit your EVDO (BroadbandAccess) connection to 200kbps.

It is SO easy to move past 5gb (legally) in a months time. Being throttled down to 15kb/s is just absurd.

It would be nice to find out if anyone has been throttled yet...

What do they mean throttled you down to 200 kbps when you exceed 5gb a month? Does it mean when another months has ended you get your full bandwith again until you exceed 5gb then your back to 200kbps

I do know that this will start December 1st, so it hasn't started yet.

I am not sure if they change you to 1XRTT or throttle your EVDO down. Since, they mention 200Kbps, that cannot possibly be 1XRTT, since 1XRTT has a maximum of 144Kbps (real life is 80Kbps - 115Kbps).

Also, I have heard that if you 'get throttled', and the following month you do not go over 5GB, you go back to EVDO Rev A. Then the cycle starts again.

If you are streaming, 5GB isn't much. However, if you are just emailing/web browsing, it would be hard for most users to go over, see:

Hmm Does that mean if we go over 5gigs say Jan 25th (with six days left in month) and they throttle us back will we still be throttled back for the month of February and if we don't go over 5gigs in February for March we would be back at full speed? Or would it be for those last six days of the month only?

Sounds like they will carry over our punishment for a month.

Still it's better than going over and finding out you don't have service one day.

The funny thing for me is that the cap speed is just barely lower than what I normally get ~300kbps. I'm not sure if I would notice the difference...
