| My KR1 using Verizon PC5750 with rev 1.010 freezes after several minutes. This seems to be typical from what I have been reading on this post. Has anyone tried the latest rev 1.011? Is it any better? |

Are you attempting to use the wireless connection or the wired connection? If you're using the wireless, you'll have to stop. There's an issue between the 5750 and KR1 that causes the router to freeze or drop connection. You may need to run a second router if you absolutely must use wireless. |

that information is incorrect. The new 1011 firmware seems to correct the wireless issues with the PC5750 and KR1...
go to http://support.dlink.com
choose your region.. once at the support page, look at the top right drop down menus... in the first one, choose KR. the second should choose the number 1, if not, manually select "1". Click "GO".
The next page, you'll see the "Product Description" box. Scroll to the end of that, just before the FAQ section starts. You'll see the newest firmware, RK1.011
Download that and follow the normal procedure with updating your router's firmware. Mine has been running rock solid, EVDO + Wifi..... |

I think you got lucky or your KR1 is of the newer version. I'm going to try the WRT54g method, added cost but if I don't have to reset the KR1 on a regular basis, it may be worth it.
Another situation where a product is rushed to market. (Is Bill Gates running this company also?) |

Just got a brand new KR1 shipped directly from Kyocera with the latest firmware. It will not even recognize the 5750. At least the previous firmware would let it dial up, even though it would eventually drop.
Did you do something special with the firmware upgrade? Am I missing something fundamental?
Thanks |

hek, I don't know what others have done but but this is what I've got goin' on.
I am using a KR-1 with the Audiovox PC5750 and connecting through Verizon. I get disconnected constantly, there seems to be no pattern. I have updated the firmware to 1.011 and the problem persist.
A few days ago I purchased at retail a D-link DIR-450. This model is supposed to be the same as the Kyocera KR-1. I couldn't get it to connect at all. After spending the better part of the day trying to get the D-link to work (using the PC5750,) I finally returned it to the retailer. And yes, I did a firmware update.
Doing a firmware update requires a bit of research as there are several procedures for different OS's and circumstances. Vista vs. XP - IE7 vs. Firefox, everything counts.
From what I've read, disabling the wireless on the KR-1 will make a huge difference with the disconnect problem. Then you need to hard wire connect a wireless-G router to the KR-1 to get the wireless back. I know! Don't get me started on engineers!
Today I disabled the Wi-Fi on the KR-1, reconnected and am watching to see how long I can maintain the connection. I also purchased a Linksys WRT54G wireless router to get that function back. I will post tomorrow evening as to the status of my folly. |

This is my follow-up post. It's been 24 hours + and my PC5750 is still connected via the KR-1 - with the Wi-Fi disabled. I don't recall it maintaining a connection this long while being in the laptop. It seems as if it would drop after 22-23 hours.
In any event, I will leave the unit online until tomorrow, sometime during he day I'll start to set up the wireless-g router.
I'll post again in a day or two with my thoughts and observations. |

Well, while I'm happy that I now have a reliable connection to the internet, I'm not too pleased that I had to purchase additional hardware to get my other computers to share the connection.
To recap: The PC5750 in the KR-1 is working quite well without its built in Wi-Fi enabled. The Linksys Wi-Fi router (an additional $50 investment) is working better than the Wi-Fi in the KR-1.
These are just my observations of the equipment I've used. There may be other combination that experience the same type of problems and the same type of solutions. Good luck on whatever you try! |
