I have been using my Verizon PC5750 card and Linksys WRT54G3G-ST router for six months now and had very few problems.
This week, we moved about 3 miles from our previous location and I cannot get the card to connect when it's in the router, or if it does, the speed is so slow that it's unusable (90 kbs or less down and maybe 15 up).
Now, if I put the card in my laptop, I have excellent signal strength (-65 dBm to -75 dBm) and excellent speeds (1100+ kbs and 500+ kbs up). I just cannot explain why a 3 mile move would change things so drastically.
One thing that I've always noticed is that the config screen on the Linksys router always says that my network is 'Sprint' (I used to use the router with a Sprint card). I also noticed that at my new location I have 3 networks available:
NationalAccess - Broadband Access
Sprint PCS Vision - Novatel Wireless
Sprint PCS Vision - Pantech
Could it be that the Linksys router is attempting to connect my Verizon card to the Sprint network? If so, how can this be changed? I don't seem to be able to select a network using the Linksys web admin pages. |

I apologize, I thought someone would have responded sooner. I have the same setup that you have and haven't had any issues. The router is independent of anybody's EVDO network, you just need to have a compatible card, which you do, and the correct firmware. I assume you updated the firmware to work with the Verizon PC5750. The router screen will still say Sprint, like mine below:
Network Name : Sprint
Signal Strength : Good
Connection Time : 5 Hours 5 Minute 40 Second
Current Session Usage : RX = 9.61 Mbytes
TX = 1.74 Mbytes
Data Card Status
Card Model : PC-5750VE
Card Firmware : D5750VEM03_0.210 1 [Feb 02 2007 15:00:00] [Jun 08 2007 11:46:14]
Once again, I have to assume that you were using the Verizon card at your previous address and you had already done the firmware update. If so, it might be worth trying another card on a 30-day trial from a new carrier to test it out in the router to see if that solves the problem.
Hope that helps a little bit. |

| How do we update the firmware for the Verizon 5750? I think my firmware is dated 8/2006 and I notice yours is newer. |

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. The firmware that allows the PC5750 to work with the Linksys Router can be found on this board under the Linksys thread. The firmware version is 2.00.9 for the WRT54G3G-ST.
As far as my card goes, I always take it out of the router every now and then and run it off the laptop to get any updates from Verizon through the VZ Access software which won't work on a computer that runs through the router.
Hope that helps. The guys at 3G Store are great if you have any questions. |
