If you have a KPC 680 and are trying to use it with the KR1 your wasting your time. Kyocera support will have you put the expresscard in the included sled and tell you to power your router on and off for about 2 hours or until you just get fed up and hang up the phone. After talking to 3 techs no one told me that it wont work no matter what you do. They know damn well it don't work. They had me update the firmware. Power on and off. Then they had me call Alltel and check the password. After you read every form on the web trying to understand why 2 Kyocera products don't work together out of the box it will dawn on you that you have been had.
The only way I have found to make it work is to buy the SIIG express card USB adapter. It does some what work but the latency is horrible. Worse than satelitte Internet. While web browsing pages decide not to load. Your bandwidth is never more than about 300 kbps. Now if you take the SIIG and hook it directly to your desktop/laptop the rig works pretty nice. In fact it is faster than the KPC 650 alone. So dont waste a week like I did. Kyocera's little ** is nothing more than a hook to get you to buy their card that don't work with the KR1. It's listed as compatiable on their website, that is Bull Sh**. At best it is nothing more than a hack. 2400 ms ping times is not compatibility. Kyocera little comment about entering the market late and cleaning up is true. To bad most of the cleaning up is on their own product. They need to take the KPC 680 off of the list of compatible cards. The fact that they have not released their own USB adapter should tell you something. |

Wow. why not tell us how you really feel?
as a side note. we've had staff test a KPC680 with our Novatel PCMCIA-to-ExpressCard adapter sled (NOT kyocera provided unit) and are confident it works, well enough to recommend it to others interested in using it with their KPC680 and KR1.
additionally, for those with a KPC680 (or considering one), there is an alternative to the KR1 as a router.
We've found the KPC680 works with the CradlePoint CTR350, when used with the USB-to-ExpressCard adapter sold by 3gstore.com |

EVDO's review states that the KR1 unit will not work with the KPC680 (Verizon Service), regardless of the type of adapter used. I am using the combination successfully with a Novatel XCA-3 PCMCIA-to-ExpressCard adapter. Speedtests are Rev (A) standard for my area. The only anomaly is that the USB(phone) LED blinks continually.

Tried the above combo on a KR1 and it didn't work, KR1 never even came on, solid yellow light in status. Couldn't believe it. Took another brand new KR1 (out of box) with the exact same results. FYI, popped in a different model card (not KPC680) and both KR1s worked perfectly.
The guy from Kyocera in another thread confirmed it doesn't work.
So, if yours is really working - then it is even worse - it works sometimes. However, our testing still indicates that the combination doesn't work and we do not recommend the combination. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

It may have to do with my LAN - I'm using a wired LAN connection and not the wireless feature of the KR1. Try that. |

| Alex asked for the firmware number of my KPC680. How do I determine that? |

stick your card into laptop and operate with vzaccess manager.
get info on card (one of the menu options), to read firmware version. |

Alex -
Firmware version is QV1.0.02 (August 28, 2007)
Here's a recent speedtest:
I don't know why it works but I'm very happy with the upgrade from a PC5220. |
