Im at a crossroads, need to get a new phone and also need to get mobile wireless for my macbook pro. Hopefully this is the right forum for this, considering that the 8830 is marketed as "phone as a modem" wondering if I can expect the same performance out of data transfer that I would from the usb u727 novatel modem?

I dont really need a blackberry, but if the phone as a modem feature fully works the way the u727 does, id get one just for that feature so I dont have to have to pay for the u727 on top of a cell phone.

so, what do you think?

From personal experience: the performance on the U727 blows away the Blackberry 8830 as a modem. I was going to rely on my 8830 PAM as my primary internet connection but decided to try the U727. I am glad Sprint is rolling out a cheaper Blackberry data plan as I no longer need tethering on the Blackberry because the U727 is sooo much better. I am in a Rev A area BTW.
