|
|
After fighting the dreaded dropped connection monster for a few months now I had had it. I called Verizon tech support and complained long and loud. After listening to me the very nice tech said no problem we have new software for the VZ Access Manager that will fix things. With more than a little anxiety I downloaded the new software and deleted the old. After installing the new software and reinstalling the USB 720 and letting it update I was off and running! I have been online for 5 days now and no dropped connections at all. This is the best it has ever been in the last 6 months. I would recommend that if you are having a problem to get with tech support and do the upgrade.
All of this was done with the 720 plugged into my pc. After I reinstalled it in my KR1 all was good.
I am running the USB720 on a Kyocera KR1

| Do you have a link to this version? I went Verizon's download site, and the latest available was 6.3.2 (1642c) when I specified the KPC650. |

Jeff, I also use the USB720/KR1 combo. However, it doesn't sound like it was a new Access Manager (VAM) that did the trick, but a new upload to the 720 though the VAM. Sounds like we should pull the PC Card or USB dongle out of the KR1 and put it into the computer every once in a while to give VAM a chance to upgrade it --- sort of like doing a *228 with our cell phones.

| If you go to www.vzam.net and specify USB720 and Windows XP you get 6.3.7. |

I have the same issue, but with no luck getting this combination to work: USB720 and the KR-1.
The USB720 will stay connected in my computer with VZAM for hours. In the KR-1, I am lucky to stay connected for 10 mintues. WI-FI disabled the KR-1. Running newest version of VZAM on the computer and I just ran an "activate" yesterday. Running the newest version of firmware for the KR-1.
Anyone have an idea?
Thanks-

I hate to be pessimistic, but when a company starts development on a replacement product (the KR-2) it often means that old-product support suffers. If your USB720 works fine in the computer with VZAM (as mine does also), but not in the KR-1, logic says we have identified the problem -- provided we have positioned the 720 so the VZW signal is the same in both cases.

| I hate to be prematurely optimistic, but this morning I moved the router away from the speaker (which it was sitting on) and moved the modem a few feet away from everything. Its been about an hour and 1/2 and no disconnect issues. I'll keep you posted. |

I too have been experiencing the vanishing WLAN and reboots with my
KR1 + Verizon KPC650 setup. This has frustrated me since I got it, I've
read all of your posts, tried firmware upgrades, etc. But the only solution
I have found is disabling the WLAN (which defeats the damn thing's purpose) and added a second WLAN device. I had a broken Viewsonic wireless router that had its WAN port smoked (it was used with a cable modem) but with some creative settings, I plugged a lan port from the
Viewsonic into a lan port on the KR1 and voila' , better WLAN signal and what feels like a 10 fold performance improvement.
I used to get a "Good to Very Good" signal strength when in the same room with the KR1 alone, now I get "Excellent" connections with the Viewsonic in an upstairs bedroom and me downstairs. I watched a Netflix movie over the Internet the other night without a single stall, buffering, or skip.....wirelessly to the router and wirelessly to the internet (a la evdo).
How cool is that?
My performance was starting to remind me of Dialup until I got this KR1 and resolved my issues with it. Now, it feels like my old Cable modem.
Hope you all have found solutions to your problems.
Cheers |
