|

Howdy All,
I currently use Alltel EVDO with the 5750 as my home internet connection and my wife and I love it.
My contract is up with AT&T and I have been considering switching my cell phone to Alltel. I live in a very rural area, so I would need a phone that gets a good signal and has a way to hook an external antenna if I ever need one.
I have also considered staying with AT&T. I could get a phone off of ebay and try to get the cheapest plan for Alltel and add the $25 tethering package. That way I could just throw my Alltel phone in laptop bag and only use it if I need it.
Ok, now here are my questions.
1. If I were to switch to Alltel for my primary cell phone, which phone should would y'all recommend? Note: The phone would need a decent reception in rural areas and the possibility of external antenna hookups while tethering.
2. If I were to get a phone only for tethering, which phone would you get? Also, is it possible to get a phone with only the $25 tethering option? I have a feeling that if I were to get a phone only for tethering, it might not be better to just get another data card with the $59.99 plan.
Thanks for your time. |

I live in a rural area 6+miles from an Alltel tower the only phone that works for us {everyone has different needs with reception} is the Razr V3C. We tried the LG AX8600 nice phone but reception was a dud.
I prefer the data card over using the cell based on speeds. The Razr does at times get great speeds just not consistent
I have not tried the Razr2 it is supposed to be faster |

| The tethering option is only $25 but u still must have a rate plan. The cheapest rate plan is 39.99. So that is $64.99/mo + tax. The data plan is $59.99 and alot faster. Also Alltel offers wireless cards that are free after rebate. The air card is definetly a better choice if you do not need the voice features. |
