i activated a 5220 card on a win xp machine the other day and it installed the new firmware.

i then went to use the card in a mac that the driver had just worked fully on.
(i did not realize i could have clicked with option key and activated on the mac) Robert Kim did not know to tell me to hold down option key while clicking he just said i should be able to activate on the mac.

now on the mac the antenna icon is grayed out and no signal bars or type of service also on menu the top 3g option is grayed out.
if i click "about verizon card" there is no card info displayed.
if i try to activate the card on the mac it never happens it just tries forever.
the card will activate ok on win xp machine

the card connects and works ok on the mac just the above parts are broken now after the firmware update.

any help would be apreciated,,,,

That is horrible news, I will have to check it out to see if the same thing happens. I have yet to try an firmware update because it breaks the debug mode of the PC5220 card.

See if this tip solves it for you:

PC5220 Mac Lost Signal Indicator Fix

I really hope that this firmware upgrade didn't break things for Mac. I have an extra PC5220 card laying around here, I haven't performed the firmware upgrade, because it breaks the Debug Mode of the PC5220.

Debug Mode of the PC5220

I know the Product Manager of the PC5220 @ Sierra Wireless, I will drop them an email to see what information that can shed on this topic.

If the worst thing that happened to you with your contact with Robert Kim, was lack of information/support, consider yourself lucky.

Regarding the 14 views within 10 minutes, we have a LOT of people who visit up here (glad you found us too).

I tried your fix for lost signal indicator and it did not help.

I have read the posts about it breaking the debug mode that is what help me put together that it was the firmware that broke the mac driver.

I am pretty sure it was the firmware update as just before the firmware update I had the card in the mac and every thing was fine it just could not authoncate because the card needed to be activated with the new account info.
I could see the card info under "about verizon card" old phone number, prl etc.

As soon as I got the card going on the win xp machine I put it into the mac and had the driver issue.
I reloaded the verizon driver software on the mac but it did not help.

What is very interesting (and scary), is the last shipment of PC5220s that Verizon just got in a few weeks ago (destined for service and support, and a tiny amount for sales) all have the new firmware. So, anyone that needs a replacement from Verizon will get the new firmware.

I have some extra PC5220 cards here, I will do a firmware upgrade and do some testing on my PowerBook and report it here.

Can I ask, you can still pull down and connect, nothing else works though, correct?

I can confirm this happened to me, when I did a test with the upgrade Firmware. I created a Tip at EVDOinfo:

PC 5220 Firmware 2.35 Breaks Mac OS X Menu Bar

If you know of anyone using a PC5220, PLEASE point them towards the URL above.

We have tested the Mac OS 10.4.7 which contains updated EVDO drivers, and the PC5220 with new firmware, once again works with a PC5220 and a PowerBook (seems to work with both old and new PC5220 firmware)
