Welcome to EVDOforums,

Nope, that was not a duplicate, you were first to post the link.

That is GREAT NEWS!!

I would have thought that Sprint would have lowered the price first, trying to gain customers, since Verizon has the coverage. If this does happen, this would be great news for EVERYONE.

Comments?

Is it expected that even people who already have signed on will also benefit from this? Or is it only gonna benefit the folks who sign on new for the service after the cuts take place?

That's a question I have too. Right now, AFAIK this is just a unconfirmed report. I'm hoping that someone on this forum will be one of the first in the know when the details come available and can post. I just today started my 14 day trial, so if the answer is that those who are already under contract will not benefit, guess who's going to be returning their card next week? Smile

Yups - if they wont extend this to the new customers; everyone but those who have less than 7 months left will benefit from getting their service cut off.

I will post the info, after it is confirmed to be true (announced by Verizon). In the past, if there was a plan change (price drop), you could extend you contract for another year and get the lower price. We will have to wait to see how this is handled (if true).

For anyone that has signed up in the last 15 days, of course, I am sure you will be covered, otherwise, you can return your equipment, cancel the contract and then sign up again at the new lower price (or just keep everything and get a new contract).

Lets wait and see what this week brings.

Here is the ad:

This all looks good on paper, but if you do the math, you may be paying slightly more for EVDO:

- The $100 Rebates ended August 28, 2005
- This promotion is only for 2 year agreements
- This promotion only works if you have a Verizon Mobile phone number

SO, if you want a 1 year agreement or don't an existing Verizon Mobile Phone, today, you actually are paying more for EVDO, compared to yesterday.

FYI, sometimes it takes 1 - 2 days AFTER a rebate expired for a new one to take place. We haven't see any indication that there will be a rebate extension.

If you already have BroadbandAccess service, you can still get the lower rate, here is how:

1) Call Verizon @ 800-922-0204

2) If you have more than 12 months left on your contract AND you have a current Verizon Mobile Phone number, they can drop the price and keep your contract with the same date

3) If you have less than 12 months, they can get you on the new rate plan ($59.99 instead of $79.99), but they will extend your contract by 12 months. You still need a Verizon Mobile Phone number to qualify.

You need one Verizon Mobile phone number per BroadbandAccess plan. You cannot use one phone and 2 BroadbandAccess Plans.

Actually, every broadband plan *has* a mobile voice phone # associated with it. The only account I have with verizon is my data plan, but if you recall, the fine print says you can still make voice calls at .40/min or some such .. and you'll find your phone number listed in the "about" of vzw access manager.
I just finished calling the 800 number you provided and asking if I was elegible to switch to the 59.99 rate and gave them that phone # from the vzw access manager help/about screen and they said I'm all set with the new rate plan now.

OK, so I just tried the same thing and the Verizon Sales Rep that I spoke with told me:
Quote:
there must be at least one voice plan on the account in order to take advantage of the lower broadbandaccess rates

So, I guess, it matters who you talk with. The guy I spoke with was not familiar with this "new plan", and read about it. Sounds like, he understood the fine print and the person you spoke with didn't.

I might encourage everyone to call and ask to switch and see if they get the lower price. You probably won't, BUT if you get in touch with Boater805's telephone agent - maybe you will Smile

To benefit others, please post additional information:

- do you already have a separate Verizon Voice Plan?

- Are you setup as a business or consumer?

- Did you initially sign up for 1 or 2 year service plan?

- How many months are left in your contract?

------------
My Data cards are setup under a business plan, perhaps this makes a difference.

Anyone else try to get the lower price

I got the lower price today.

1. I do not have a separate Verizon Voice Plan
2. Consumer
3. 2 years service plan
4. 10 months
Also, I have to extend contract by 2 years.

I have two other Verizon voice cell phones in addidtion to the V620 all on a personal account, not a business one, with nineteen months left on the contract.

Initially, I saw the TV commercial last night and called the number listed on Verizons "Contact Us" page on their website. That was a mistake, don't do that. They told me that they didn't have the code for the new plan and that I should go to me nearest Verizon store and have them make the changes. Finding this to be unacceptable, I started looking on this forum for more info.

After finding this thread, I just called the toll free number listed previously, followed the voice mail prompts to get to a human CSR who then verified my identity, and I told them that "I was told to call this number to get my monthly rate reduced to $59.99/mo."

I was put on hold for a few minutes while they checked to see if the new rate plan was being offered. Apparently the new rate just went into effect over the past couple of days because she didn't know about it.

She came back on the line and sais that my account now reflected the new rate plan with no change in the contract start/end date.

So make sure you call 800-922-0204. I'm assuming that this number connects you to the people that deal specifically with the wireless data plans.

As for accounts with less than a year remaining, I don't know what your options are. I would imagine that they would want you to renew for at least a year.
