PostPosted: Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:41 am    Post subject: Couldn't get new rate Reply with quote

I signed up for $80/month through this site about two days ago. I tried calling Verizon to ask about the $60 rate, but they insisted I would need an actual voice plan to qualify. I kept the lady on the phone for 15 minutes looking for ways to get the price, but nothing.

Any tips on how to talk to them or what to do to get the new rate without a voice plan? I'm not 100% sure I'd want to change and go from a 1 year to a 2 year contract, but I'd like to know that is at least an option.

Like it said in an earlier post. Keep calling until someone says "Yes". Smile

Actually, the magic words I sprinkled throughout the conversation were the ones mentioned earlier: "I was directed by the sales representative at the Verizon kiosk to call this number to get the rate which was announced just this week". Kinda puts the onus on the customer service rep not to "drop the ball", since it's not unreasonable to imagine the better price WAS dangled in front of the customer by a sales representative to help "close the sale".

In my case, I'm still in the cancellation period, so could just return it and walk away, no questions asked. You generally don't want to piss off a brand-new customer who has options...

I also threw in: "my contract mentions that I can use my laptop as a voice line, but I'll be billed at $0.40 per minute." Also, mention the VZAccess Manager software makes me "input my PC card number as my "voice plan" number, and the contract mentions voice plan features". Dunno if that's true exactly or not (didn't look), but it sounds good, no? Wink

If all else fails, ask if they have any information on Cingular's upcoming EDGE network, or any idea about when Sprint's implementation of EVDO is going "hot" (tell her you heard "in a few months"). Then say, "Hmmmm.... well if you can't work out the data entry on your end, maybe I'll just hold off for awhile to see what's going to be offered, since there's little point in signing a long-term contract now". Surprised

If THAT doesn't do it, I'd be shocked. Very Happy

Seriously, you are commiting to a plan before seeing what similar service the competitors will be offering, so it's not like Verizon is doing this offer out of the sheer kindness of their hearts: it's a bit of a gamble on your part to commit to a plan that may be bested when the battle heats up...

Recieved the lowere rate WITHOUT a voice plan today.

1. I do not have a separate Verizon Voice Plan
2. Consumer
3. 2 years service plan
4. 22 months
It amounts to extending my plan by two months.

I expect that we can get the plan until the requirement to have a seperate voice plan filters down to all the phone service agents.

I just signed up a 2yr about 3 weeks ago. I call the data number and Frank confirmed the new rate. Since my statement cycle was just ending, he said the rate would start next billing cycle. I didn't push it and just feel great for saving the other 23 months of the contract.

Thanks for the headsup.

I do have 2 voice lines already and no business account.

Definately no reason to get cable now.

Denied the lowere rate WITHOUT a voice plan today.

2. Consumer
3. 2 years service plan
4. 15 months

The agent I reached was too smart for my own good.

I just called Verizon and the rep said that I have "NationalAccess" and "BroadbandAccess" connection speeds associated w/ my account. If I switched to the $59.99 price, I'd only have NationalAccess upload/download speeds and lose my faster Broadband access speeds in cities that support the faster "broadband" connection rate. Something doesn't sound right here. Anyone else heard this one?

There are 3 plans:

1) BroadbandAccess / NationalAccess = $79.99
2) NationalAccess Only $59.99
3) BroadbandAccess / NationalAccess for VZW Cell Phone Customer $59.99

People have been getting #3 on this forum, you DO NOT WANT #2 (that is what you just described.

Can people that got the $59.99 plan confirm they got #3 and not #2

You scared me! Just today I requested and was moved to the lower amount. Anyway, jump over to: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/promotion/controller?promotionType=miniPac&action=miniStart

I quote: Get broadband speed, wirelessly. The nation's largest fastest wide-area wireless broadband network. Get unlimited BroadbandAccess for just $59.99 montly acces w/ 2-yr customer agreement and qualifying voice plan.

Also, I specifically asked the Verizon Rep about having the same exact service (unlimited, etc.) as I had with the $79.99 and she said nothing changes - just the cost.

Yes, #3. It is not a different plan, it is the broadband/national access at the lower rate.

I really don't know why any thinks this isn't the way verizon designed it. You quote that " a qualifying voice plan is needed" .. well, the data plan does *include* a voice plan (at .40/min). That is evidently a qualifying voice plan. Sure, no reason to red flag it by asking that when you call to get changed. Just as no reason to point out you don't have 12 months min left on your contract. None the less, this is pretty simple. If the CSR you speak with doesn't agree to change the rate on your plan to the new lower rate then just call back again until you get one that does it for you. Its not rocket science.

Boater805--

Unfortunately, Verizon has turned this into "rocket science." If they intended simplicity in their "design" of administering this new rate, they would have just given all of their existing customers the new rate without making them call and root out a knowledgable rep to get it (which is plain silly). Verizon's own inconsistency in handling this matter is why so many are confused about how they "designed it."

Sorry to have annoyed you with such petty ignorance.

Anyone else having a problem where Verizon refuses to move you from 79.99 to 59.99 without getting new paperwork signed?

I've been told twice now that I can either request they mail the forms to me or I can go to a verizon store over the phone, but they won't just switch the account w/o the paperwork...

I called and they said I had to "sign" on the dotted line to change to the lower rate. They also said they would "fax" me the form (which they didn't). I ran up to Verizon - and they had me renew for two years to get the lower rate. Funny - I only started using wireless a month earlier so my new "2 year contract" was kind of foolish Laughing

They should be able to fax it to you too...

I posted previously that Verizon needed me to sign paperwork too in order to have my account adjusted to the new rate. One of the reps told me that this varies by state, I guess in Maryland the paper has to be signed. I actually had to make several calls to get this to happen, and encounted various reps who knew about the plan at varying levels of detail, or who didn't know about the plan at all.

1st call - Rep knew about plan, indicated that I needed to sign the contract, would mail it out (for the record, it's been two weeks and I still haven't received the contract!)

2nd call - (a couple of days later) Rep didn't know about the plan, warned me that this would be a downgrade to NationalAccess. Conferenced me to tech support (?!?!), who also had no clue about the plan. They both thought I was off my rocker, and despite reading them the ad posted here on the boards word for word, they were utterly convinced that no such lower rate existed except as NationalAccess. The original rep finally suggested talking to her supervisor, which I declined, figuring that this was just the wrong rep to talk to, so I offered a goodbye and hung up.

3rd call - (dialed as soon as I hung up on the 2nd call) Rep knew about the plan, made no mention of the qualifying voiceplan issue, offered to FAX out a contract which I received the next day and faxed back to them. *The contract specifically indicated a 5 or 6 number rate plan, with BroadbandAccess written next to it at $59.99* Sorry, I don't have the contract with me to give you the plan code.

4th call - (a week after 3rd call) Confirmed that I had received new rate, and that I still had BroadbandAccess at $59.99. Will start my next billing cycle in October since I'm already on the September cycle.

Keep trying and verify that they are keeping you on Broadband and not downgrading. It seems like there is a lot of confusion on Verizon's end, and at some point they will all get up to speed on this, but you should be able to get the lower rate as long as you keep on them and make sure they get a contract out to you if you actually need to sign it.

Thanks for breaking it down!

Now is it possible to get #1 with no voice service from Verizon at 60 per month?

I JUST signed up with Sprint EVDO because I get a 25 percent discount and that brings my total to 60 per month. However, if I can get Verizon EVDO for 60 a month I would cancel and go with Verizon EVDO .

Thanks!

James
