I recently got my hands on an old laptop so I could plug my PC5740 card in and see if there were any updates available. It's been running rock solid in my KR1 for well over a year now with no way to update it. Well, apparently there have NOT been any updates in the past year or so since it tells me I am running the most recent version. Hard to believe but . . . . . . anyway . . . . . . I ran a few tests and was very surprised at the results. My downloads really suck, coming in around 120kbps to 150kbps. There have been some problems locally lately but we've had EVDO for a good year or so now so that's a real slowdown.

But the thing that really blew me away is my upload speeds. Averaging between 250kbps to 300kbps!!

Now, correct me if I'm wrong but that's Rev A upload speeds! I know Alltel has turned on Rev A in at least one area in Georgia but that area is a good 3 hours drive from me. Not to mention there's no way this pc5740 card should be seeing Rev A speeds of any kind. Real strange. Any ideas?

Total speculation on my part, but I remember reading somewhere that EVDO REV0 used 1xEVDO for download and 1xRTT for upload. That is why you can't get greater upload speeds. I am curious if an area went to REVA, would a REV0 card then be able to upload using 1xEVDO and not 1xRTT.

I know that is a stretch, but just thought I would throw that out there.

ansar, that might well be the case. Sure would make sense. Interesting, very interesting. Anybody else experiencing this sudden upload increase? It's great but not at the expense of my dl's if that's the reason for the dl decrease. Probably just the network being "worked on" or whatever. I'm even stuck with sub 200kbps dl's on my Q and new PPC6800. Got to be a network thing. I guess I need to bite the bullet and call CS.
