I've been lugging the Dell I1000 (7+ Pounds) around more and more lately because EVDO is just so damn handy to have available. The 1000 has a 15" screen and is cumbersome to use on an airplane. On the trip to DC, a guy a couple of rows up had a 700m and was watching a movie (2.5 hours) and I had used all my battery waiting to board in the terminal. I had been thinking about a 700 but watching that guy have all that fun convinced me. Dell has a $500 off coupon that expires on the 22nd for lappys over 1399, here's the coupon in case anyone is thinking about getting a Dell (dude) W$N7BQKNQBFM42 Just copy and paste it in the coupon space at checkout.
Anyway, I got the Inspiron 700M that weighs 4.1 pounds with a 1.6 725M processor, 512 megs of DDr ram, 24X cd burner/DVD, 8 cell extended battery (5 hours!) built in Wi Fi B/G, yada yada..
Here's the specs and the deal, use that coupon if you're in the market!

I saw this message on another thread on a different board. May not affect you, but if you have one of these or planning on getting one, watch out.
***************
Warning to Dell Latitude 600 Series customers:
DO NOT try the Sierra Wireless card in your Dell. The bus voltage of the PCMCIA slot is slightly different, and it will hose you like a fireman on a burning house. We called Verizon, and they said "oh, that's a known issue". Known issue.......ummm.....I never saw it ANYWHERE on the web site.
So, we've got some of the Novatel cards on order, we'll see if that doesn't work a little better. We'll let you know if the Dell likes them any better.

| It hasn't bothered my current Dell and I've never read anything like that at the Dell forums but I did read about a PC5220 being fried by a PCI to PCMIA card on a desktop. Let us know how that works when you get yours. |
