Whoooooooa Nelly there ChrisM...are you saying you can use an 8gig sdhc micro card? The HTC wiki agrees with you, but HTC says you're wrong.
quote from HTC:
Hello Mark H. Tyler,
Thank you for your inquiry about the Sprint Mogul.
Mark, I know how important it is for you to have more storage space available by using 4GB or 6GB Micro SD cards. Unfortunately HTC Mogul design to support and test up to 2GB Micro SD cards only. I hope that future device can support more than 2GB.
Mark, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

| With all the features of this device and the nice big screen, why does it not support Sprint TV? |

That was my first question...silly eh?
You can pay 15 bucks a month and get mobiTV, or you can rig up Sling.whatever you call it.
At the end of the day, you've got to be pretty desparate to watch TV on that screen. I had it on the LG...almost never used it. _________________ Mostly Harmless |

Not really desperate, but I've truly enjoyed watching ballgames and an occasional race while traveling or at a conference or a meeting, etc. while Slinging on my 6800. Crystal clear picture and stereo sound through my Moto H820 BT headset really rocks. Used it many times for news and many other programs while waiting for a late flight too. Especially while sitting in line in Atlanta waiting to take off for 3 hours a few weeks ago.
And now, back on topic . . . . |

| This is Slinging. And for anyone who's on the go, it's well worth the price of admission. |

There's this box called a slingbox, and it can send your tv to your computer or your mobile device over the internet, and apparently even let you change channels.
It sounds pretty cool, but as someone who spends way too much time on the computer as it is, I'd rather take advantage of DVR technology to let me watch programs when I get back to my big screen TV where Im going to get the experience I want.
That said, I'm the first to recognize that you do it for the same reason that a dog licks its...special area...because it can. _________________ Mostly Harmless |

Michael, when was that article on slingbox written? Does the bandwidth concern still apply to Sprint?

It does seem very strange to me that SprintTV is not supported on the Mogul. The only explanation that I can think of is that they haven't developed a Windows Mobile compatible version of SprintTV yet.
On another note, I tried using my Fujitsu u810 umpc connected through my phone using WMWiFiRouter at a bar in Manhattan Friday evening.
My friend has a an HSDPA windows mobile phone (the TyTn or something similar to the Mogul) and we compared performance using DSL Reports.
The performance using my EVDO RevA phone was like 150kbps down and 300kpbs up, with a 161ms latency.
The performance using my friends AT&T HSDPA phone was more like 500kpbs down and 350kbps up with a 231ms latency.
This is likely due to coverage at this particular location, but still, disconcerting. |

I ran a 3 more tests from home using Speakeasy NY via dslreports.com
My lowest latency was 56ms !
My highest latency was 115ms.
My best download speed was 801Kbps
My worst download speed was 220Kbps
My best upload speed was 425Kbps
My worst upload speed was 260Kpbs.
I feel a bit better about it but I must say that the performance is extremely variable, and I can't say I feel great about Sprint's poor consistency. The results vary wildly from test to test, even from a single location with great reception. |

It may be apples to oranges, but compare this to results for my Cable connection through time warner roadrunner:
15ms latency, 8397Kbps download, 483Kbps upload. |

It still must be pretty early days for EVDO when you think about it, but the ubiquitous nature of cellular coverage is such that it must represent a profound opportunity going forward if they can get it right.
I think sprint is a bit sharper about that then Verizon, but I must admit I'm fairly ignorant of where HSDPA networks stand. Since the 3g folks support some HSDPA maybe they'll open up a parallel effort for that side of the street. I find this moderated forum connected to their store generally more useful than many unmoderated ones.
